2026 Copa do Brasil prize money: what each semifinalist earns and how much the champion can accumulate

The semifinal pays R$9 million per club, but the cumulative amount depends on the entry round. See the R$18 million current-bracket total and scenarios that can reach R$100.59 million.

Direct answer: the CBF set a R$9 million payment for each club that plays in the 2026 Copa do Brasil semifinals. This is an incremental amount: it is added to payments from previous rounds that the team actually played. Because Série A clubs enter in the fifth round, a semifinalist on that route has accumulated R$18 million by the time it reaches the semifinals.

That is the route followed by the current bracket. The eight clubs that reached the 2026 quarterfinals — Atlético-MG, Cruzeiro, Grêmio, Internacional, Palmeiras, Santos, Vasco and Vitória — were among the Série A teams that had advanced to the round of 16. Therefore, any of the four semifinalists from this group accumulates R$18 million: R$2 million from the fifth round, R$3 million from the round of 16, R$4 million from the quarterfinals and R$9 million from the semifinals.

How much each 2026 Copa do Brasil round pays

The official CBF prize table separates clubs into three groups in the early rounds: Group I for 2026 Série A teams, Group II for Série B teams and Group III for Série C, Série D and state-competition qualifiers. From the fifth round onward, the payment is the same for every participant.

RoundPayment per clubRecipients
First roundR$400,000Group III
Second roundR$1.38 million / R$830,000Group II / Group III
Third roundR$1.53 million / R$950,000Group II / Group III
Fourth roundR$1.68 million / R$1.07 millionGroup II / Group III
Fifth roundR$2 millionAll clubs
Round of 16R$3 millionAll clubs
QuarterfinalsR$4 millionAll clubs
SemifinalsR$9 millionAll clubs
FinalR$34 million or R$78 millionRunner-up / champion

The two final figures are alternatives: the runner-up receives R$34 million and the champion receives R$78 million. They are not both added to the same club.

Why each current-bracket semifinalist is guaranteed R$18 million

The CBF established that all 20 Série A clubs enter in the fifth round. The financial path for a club from that group to the semifinals is:

  • fifth round: R$2 million;
  • round of 16: R$3 million;
  • quarterfinals: R$4 million;
  • semifinals: R$9 million.

The sum is R$18 million. This avoids a common misunderstanding: the announced R$9 million semifinal payment is not the club's cumulative total, only the payment for that stage.

The CBF itself listed the Série A clubs that remained in the round of 16 and later confirmed the eight names in the quarterfinals. Since all current quarterfinalists came through the Série A entry route, the cumulative amount upon reaching the semifinals is the same for all four qualifiers.

How much the current runner-up and champion can accumulate

OutcomeTotal through semifinalsFinal paymentTotal
Eliminated in semifinalsR$18 million—R$18 million
Runner-upR$18 millionR$34 millionR$52 million
ChampionR$18 millionR$78 millionR$96 million

So the champion emerging from the current group of eight quarterfinalists accumulates R$96 million in competition payments. The runner-up accumulates R$52 million.

How the entry round changes the potential total

The 2026 format placed clubs into the tournament at different stages. According to the CBF, 28 lower-ranked clubs under the federation criterion started in the first round; another 74 entered in the second; the 2025 champions of Copa do Nordeste, Copa Verde, Série C and Série D entered in the third; and all 20 Série A clubs entered in the fifth. No new clubs enter in the fourth round.

Adding only the official payments from rounds actually played produces these main cumulative scenarios:

Entry roundInitial groupOn reaching semifinalsIf runner-upIf champion
First roundGroup IIIR$21.25 millionR$55.25 millionR$99.25 million
Second roundGroup IIR$22.59 millionR$56.59 millionR$100.59 million
Second roundGroup IIIR$20.85 millionR$54.85 millionR$98.85 million
Third roundGroup IIR$21.21 millionR$55.21 millionR$99.21 million
Third roundGroup IIIR$20.02 millionR$54.02 millionR$98.02 million
Fifth roundSérie A / unified paymentR$18 millionR$52 millionR$96 million

The highest theoretical cumulative figure among these routes is R$100.59 million, for a Group II club entering in the second round and winning the title. That does not mean the final itself pays more: the champion's final payment remains R$78 million. The difference comes from payments accumulated before the final.

Why playing more rounds does not guarantee the highest total

Early-round payments vary by group. A Group III club starting in the first round plays one more stage but receives smaller early payments. A Group II club entering in the second round receives R$1.38 million, R$1.53 million and R$1.68 million in the three early rounds it plays. That is why the latter route can finish with a higher cumulative total despite starting one round later.

This is also why a single “champion's total prize money” is misleading unless it identifies the club's entry round and group. Adding every figure in the table without respecting the club's actual path produces the wrong result.

Knockout status on September 2, 2026

At the time of this update, Atlético-MG had already become the first semifinalist after eliminating Cruzeiro on September 1. The remaining places were due to be decided by Vitória vs. Vasco and Santos vs. Palmeiras on September 2 and Grêmio vs. Internacional on September 3.

The names could still change at that point, but the prize calculation could not: any semifinalist from this bracket accumulates R$18 million because every quarterfinal club followed the same entry point, the fifth round.

Mistakes that distort the calculation

  • Calling the R$9 million semifinal payment the cumulative total. It is only the payment for that stage.
  • Giving a club payments from rounds it did not play. Série A teams enter only in the fifth round.
  • Adding runner-up and champion payments together. A finalist receives one of the two amounts.
  • Mixing in outside revenue. Gate receipts, sponsor bonuses and other agreements are not part of this calculation.

Bottom line

In the current 2026 Copa do Brasil bracket, each semifinalist accumulates R$18 million. The runner-up finishes with R$52 million and the champion with R$96 million. Across all tournament entry routes, a champion's theoretical cumulative amount can reach R$100.59 million, as long as only payments compatible with the rounds actually played are included.
