Top 10 worldwide box office movies of 2026 through Sep. 17: grosses and international share

An updated September 17 ranking of the ten highest-grossing movies worldwide in 2026, including worldwide, domestic, foreign totals and each title's international share.

Through September 17, 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day leads the year's worldwide box office with $2,453,024,087, followed by The Odyssey with $1,687,781,995. The ranking below uses one consistent criterion: cumulative worldwide gross as displayed by Box Office Mojo's 2026 Worldwide ranking, accessed on September 17, 2026.

In addition to the worldwide total, the comparison shows how much came from the domestic market and how much the source classifies as Foreign. The international-share column is the foreign portion of worldwide gross. Because several titles are still in release, the figures may change after the cutoff date.

Ranking methodology

  • Cutoff date: September 17, 2026.
  • Primary source: Box Office Mojo, 2026 Worldwide Box Office page.
  • Ordering criterion: cumulative worldwide gross, from highest to lowest.
  • International share: the Foreign percentage reported by the source, representing the portion of worldwide gross earned outside the domestic market.
  • How to read the figures: totals are cumulative at the time of access and may be updated while films remain in release.

What the ranking shows at the cutoff

The top five films have already crossed $1 billion in worldwide gross. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has a clear lead at more than $2.45 billion and also posts the largest absolute foreign gross in the group, above $1.51 billion. The Odyssey ranks second with about $1.69 billion worldwide, with 64.3% of its total coming from foreign markets.

From third through fifth, Toy Story 5, Michael and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie sit between roughly $1.01 billion and $1.14 billion. Their international shares range from 57.5% to 63.4%, meaning more than half of each film's worldwide gross comes from markets the source classifies as foreign.

From sixth through tenth, the geographic mix varies more. The Devil Wears Prada 2 has a 68.2% international share, while Project Hail Mary is nearly evenly split, with 49.8% foreign. Obsession is also close to an even split, at 48.7% international.

Pegasus 3 is the most international title in the Top 10

Pegasus 3 is the clearest outlier in the table: 99.8% of its worldwide gross is listed as Foreign. Of its $656,459,523 total, $655,084,577 came from foreign markets and only $1,374,946 from the domestic market. That makes the eighth-ranked film an example of how a title can reach the global Top 10 without relying on a large domestic gross.

At the other end, Obsession has the lowest international share among the ten leaders at 48.7%, followed closely by Project Hail Mary at 49.8%. These percentages do not measure profit, admissions or popularity on their own. They only show how worldwide box-office gross is divided between the two geographic categories used in the ranking.

How to track changes after Sep. 17

This ranking is a snapshot of September 17, 2026. Films still in theaters can add revenue, change positions or shift the balance between domestic and foreign gross. For a later update, the most consistent method is to revisit the same Box Office Mojo page and keep the same fields: Worldwide, Domestic, Foreign and the Foreign percentage.

Using the same source and criterion avoids mixing figures collected on different dates or under incompatible methodologies. It also makes it possible to compare how the Top 10 evolves through the year without treating a temporary snapshot as the final 2026 result.
