From Far Away premieres October 4: cast, theme songs, and what is still unconfirmed

The Kanata Kara anime has a confirmed Japanese date, staff, cast, and theme songs, while international streaming and episode count still await announcements.

From Far Away (Kanata Kara) now has a firm date for the start of its anime adaptation: the Japanese television premiere is scheduled for October 4, 2026. Official materials have also confirmed the studio, core staff, eight cast members, and the opening and ending themes. For viewers outside Japan, however, one distinction matters: the Japanese broadcast is confirmed, but an international platform and local availability are not listed in the official schedule reviewed on September 6.

The latest update, released on September 2, brought the main trailer, a new key visual, four additional voice actors, and previews of both theme songs. Crunchyroll News reported those announcements, but the article itself does not say that the series will stream on Crunchyroll. Editorial coverage and streaming rights therefore need to be treated as separate things.

What is already confirmed before the premiere

  • Format: a TV anime adaptation of Kyoko Hikawa's From Far Away manga.
  • Japanese premiere: October 4, 2026, beginning on TOKYO MX.
  • Studio: Studio DEEN.
  • Director: Noriyuki Abe.
  • Series composition: Rika Takasugi.
  • Character design: Eiji Abiko.
  • Music: Takeshi Hama.
  • Creator supervision: the official site credits Kyoko Hikawa for the original work and script supervision, while project communications also emphasize her supervision of the adaptation.
  • Announced cast: eight characters have confirmed Japanese voice actors.
  • Theme songs: the opening and ending have been confirmed and are previewed in the main trailer.

When From Far Away premieres in Japan

The official broadcast schedule lists four channels. The times below preserve the Japanese notation published by the project, which may use 24:00 or 26:30 for late-night slots after the stated calendar day.

ChannelStart datePublished time
TOKYO MXOctober 4Sundays, 24:00
AT-XOctober 7Wednesdays, 23:30
ABC TVOctober 10Saturdays, 26:30
WOWOWOctober 13Tuesdays, 24:00

So the “October 4 premiere” refers to the start of the Japanese broadcast, not an automatic confirmation of a simultaneous worldwide launch.

Cast: who has been confirmed

The official staff and cast page lists the names announced so far. The group revealed in July was expanded with four additions in September.

IzarkKentaro Kumagai
RachefYuichiro Umehara
KeimosEiji Takeuchi
GayaKimiko Saito
GoryaTadashi Miyazawa
AgolTaisuke Nakano
GeenaMiku Ito

The last four names — Gaya, Gorya, Agol, and Geena — were introduced alongside the September main trailer. That gives a broader view of the cast, but it does not mean every important character in the adaptation has already been announced.

Staff and the current state of the adaptation

The production is well beyond the initial announcement stage. It now has a main trailer, a key visual, a television schedule, and a defined core staff. Studio DEEN is handling animation; Noriyuki Abe is directing; Rika Takasugi is in charge of series composition; Eiji Abiko is designing the characters; and Takeshi Hama is composing the score.

One especially relevant detail for manga readers is Kyoko Hikawa's involvement. The official project credits her as the original creator and script supervisor. That confirms editorial participation by the creator, but it should not be expanded into claims the official material does not make — for example, that she personally approved every episode, storyboard, or individual change.

The official site presents the adaptation as part of the 35th anniversary of the manga's serialization in LaLa. The series ran from 1991 to 2002, has more than 4 million copies in circulation, and received the Seiun Award in 2004.

What are the opening and ending songs?

The official music page confirms two tracks:

  • Opening: 逃光行, performed by Genin wa Jibun ni Aru. (GNJB).
  • Ending: 光の側で, performed by Nanashi no Taro.

The main trailer released on September 2 previews both songs. Because the official titles are presented in Japanese, keeping them in that form avoids confusion caused by different romanizations used across international publications.

Where can you watch From Far Away outside Japan?

No international streaming platform is officially confirmed in the material reviewed through September 6, 2026. The anime's ON AIR page lists Japanese broadcasters, but it currently does not name a global streaming service or a release window for regions such as Latin America.

It is also not safe to assume a Crunchyroll release simply because Crunchyroll has published news about the production. Streaming companies can editorially cover titles that are not necessarily licensed for their catalog in every region. The relevant confirmation would be a licensing announcement, an official series page in the catalog, or an update from the anime project itself.

What still needs confirmation

  • International streaming: no global platform appears in the current official schedule.
  • Availability in Latin America and other regions: no region-specific announcement yet.
  • Portuguese subtitles or dubbing: not confirmed as of this review.
  • Episode count: the total is not listed on the official pages reviewed.
  • Release timing outside Japan: October 4 should not automatically be treated as a simultaneous worldwide premiere.

Why the next updates matter

From Far Away is a late anime adaptation of a fantasy shōjo manga that began in 1991, now becoming a TV series with its creator involved and an experienced production team. Most of the basic creative package is already defined; the biggest open question for international viewers is distribution.

Before the premiere, the most reliable places to check are the anime's official site, especially the ON AIR, STAFF & CAST, and MUSIC sections. For viewers outside Japan, the decisive update will be one that explicitly names an international platform or confirms availability in a specific region.
