The Gentlemen Season 3 Is Confirmed: What Season 2’s Finale Resolves and Which Conflicts Remain Open

Netflix has already confirmed The Gentlemen Season 3. Here is what the Season 2 finale settles, which conflicts remain open, and what has not yet been announced.

Spoiler warning: this article discusses major events from the end of The Gentlemen Season 2.

The Gentlemen Season 3 is no longer a matter of speculation. Netflix officially confirmed the renewal on August 23, 2026, before Season 2 premiered, and said Guy Ritchie will return to direct. On September 10, after the new season was already available, Tudum revisited the confirmation and connected it to the consequences of the finale.

That changes the question for viewers who finished all eight episodes. It is no longer “will there be another season?” but “which conflicts did the series actually resolve, and which ones did it deliberately leave for the next stage?” The official material does not provide a closed plot outline for Season 3. The safest reading is therefore to separate facts settled by Season 2, storylines clearly left open, and details Netflix has not yet confirmed.

What the Season 3 confirmation actually settles

The first point is definitive: the series will continue. The renewal was announced before Season 2 premiered, and Netflix also confirmed that Guy Ritchie will return to direct. Ritchie’s statement says the world has expanded and the consequences carry more weight, but it is not a synopsis for the new season.

The Season 2 finale also resolves several major narrative questions. Netflix’s official Episode 8 explainer makes clear that Bobby Glass was not the mastermind behind the attack on Halstead Manor or the conspiracy that leads to Bella’s death. Eddie becomes convinced that he was and arranges for Bobby to be killed in prison, only to discover too late that his conclusion was wrong and rush with Susie to stop the hit.

The trail ultimately leads to Gospel John and Freddy. Gospel John exploits Freddy’s resentment over the Halstead inheritance, and Freddy admits that he knew about the plan and helped him. The confrontation ends with Eddie forcing his brother to kill Gospel John. That means the immediate responsibility for the conspiracy and Gospel John’s fate are not mysteries being carried into Season 3.

Resolved: what Season 2 closes before the next chapter

  • Season 3 is officially happening. Netflix confirmed the renewal on August 23, 2026.
  • Guy Ritchie will return to direct. This is one of the few production details officially announced for the next season.
  • Bobby was not behind the attack on Eddie’s family. Eddie’s suspicion proves to be wrong in the finale.
  • Gospel John and Freddy were tied to the conspiracy. Freddy admits that he knew about the plan and assisted it.
  • Gospel John is dead. Eddie forces Freddy to execute the man who manipulated his resentment.
  • The specific marijuana decriminalization effort collapses. Lord Hawthorne’s death and the failure of the political push close that plan as it existed in Season 2.

Still open: Eddie and Bobby do not return to the old hierarchy

The relationship between Eddie and Bobby remains one of the clearest conflicts for the future. Season 2 breaks the old boss-and-subordinate logic: Bobby wants to protect the criminal model he controls, while Eddie tries to turn scale, status, and political access into independence. Even after saving Bobby from the assassin he himself set in motion, Eddie makes it clear that he will not accept being owned by anyone.

The finale therefore does not restore the previous hierarchy. Bobby ends the season envisioning a Glass empire that absorbs Marco’s operation and spreads across continental Europe; Eddie appears willing to return to the business, but only on his own terms. Season 3 guarantees that the show has room to deal with that fracture, but it does not say whether the two men will be allies, rivals, or move between both positions.

Still open: Susie starts building power outside both her father and Eddie

Susie ends the season closer to Eddie in some ways, but also more determined not to depend on him. The official explainer notes that she has begun establishing relationships of her own, including a connection with Carlos Vargas, while Bobby still imagines a centralized organization under his control.

Kaya Scodelario describes Susie’s conclusion as a realization that she must step out from under her father’s name and cannot assume Eddie will always be her partner. That creates a structural hook: the next season could have three centers of power — Bobby, Eddie, and Susie — without Netflix having confirmed how those forces will align.

Still open: the biggest hook is what Eddie has become

Season 2 turns Eddie from an aristocrat trying to manage an unwanted inheritance into someone capable of using extreme violence as an instrument of power. Bella’s death, Bobby’s punishment, Eddie’s shallow-grave escape, and the revenge campaign alter both his emotional and moral position.

The final act with Freddy matters because Eddie neither kills his brother nor personally executes Gospel John. Instead, he forces Freddy to do it, combining punishment, revenge, and psychological control in one decision. Lead writer Matthew Read says the question left by the finale is what Eddie is capable of now; Theo James frames the same concern in terms of how much of himself Eddie loses while taking revenge.

That is a firmer hook than guessing at a new villain or a new war. The season ends by defining a character transformation, and the creative team itself points to that transformation as a central question for what follows.

Still open: Freddy survives, but the effect of Eddie’s punishment is unresolved

Freddy survives the confrontation, but the final image of him covered in blood and holding Gospel John’s severed head is not an emotional resolution. Season 2 settles his role in the conspiracy, not what happens to him afterward.

Tudum specifically notes that it remains to be seen which version of Freddy will emerge from that experience. That could affect his relationship with Eddie, the family dynamic at Halstead, and the resentment Gospel John exploited. None of those consequences, however, has been turned into an official Season 3 synopsis.

What Netflix still has not confirmed

In the official announcements consulted, the renewal is much more specific about the season’s existence and Guy Ritchie’s return to directing than it is about logistics or plot. Those materials do not provide an official release date, release window, filming schedule, complete Season 3 cast list, or detailed synopsis.

There is also no official confirmation that the story will return to Parliament, revive the marijuana legalization plan, move to a particular country, or turn Eddie and Susie into a couple. Season 2’s international expansion and Susie’s new network make those possibilities discussable, but a possibility is not a confirmation.

How to read Season 3’s status without turning a hook into a fact

StatusWhat we know
ResolvedSeason 3 is confirmed; Guy Ritchie will direct again; Gospel John is dead; Freddy participated in the conspiracy; Bobby was not the mastermind Eddie believed him to be.
Still openThe Eddie–Bobby relationship, Susie’s independence, Freddy’s future, the empire’s expansion, and Eddie’s moral transformation.
Not officially confirmed yetRelease date, release window, filming schedule, full cast, detailed synopsis, new countries, and the exact shape of the season’s conflicts.

The value of the renewal is that it removes uncertainty about continuation without removing narrative uncertainty. The Gentlemen has a guaranteed third season, but Season 2 ends with its main characters pursuing goals that no longer fit neatly inside the same organization. That misalignment — rather than a specific plot that has not been announced — is currently the strongest confirmed setup for the next chapter.
