Official applications for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027™ Volunteer Programme have been open since 3 September 2026. Fortaleza is one of the eight Host Cities and had already attracted more than 7,300 expressions of interest before the formal application phase opened. That number, however, does not represent completed applications: FIFA explicitly states that the earlier expression-of-interest registration does not replace the official application.
To apply, candidates must use the FIFA Volunteer Community. Applicants need to complete the form, take a short online assessment and meet the age, language, availability and Brazil-entry requirements. FIFA plans to recruit more than 6,000 volunteers across the eight Host Cities, covering more than 20 functional areas and over 30 different roles.
Who can apply to volunteer in 2027
According to FIFA and the City of Fortaleza, the main requirements are:
- be at least 18 years old at the time of application;
- be a Brazilian national or be legally permitted to enter Brazil during the competition; international applicants should also check the conditions that apply to volunteering in the country;
- be available during June and July 2027;
- be able to commit to between seven and ten shifts during the tournament’s operational period;
- have knowledge of Portuguese or English; additional languages are considered an advantage;
- no previous volunteering experience is required.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup will run from 24 June to 25 July 2027. The seven-to-ten-shift commitment is more specific than simply being “available during the period”: before applying, it is worth checking whether work, study, travel and personal commitments allow you to reserve that window.
An expression of interest is not an application
This is the most important point for anyone who completed the preliminary registration. FIFA said that more than 100,000 people had expressed interest since July, but that initial registration is not an application. In Fortaleza, more than 7,300 people had selected the city as their preferred Host City during that phase.
If you only registered your interest, you need to return to the platform and submit the official application. If you have received messages from the FIFA Volunteer Community, do not assume that your place is already under review: check the portal to confirm that the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027™ application form was actually completed and submitted.
How to complete the application and choose Fortaleza
- Go to the official FIFA Volunteer platform and create an account or log in.
- Select the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027™ from the available tournaments.
- Complete the application form with your details and availability.
- Select Fortaleza as your preferred Host City.
- Indicate your areas of interest when requested in the form.
- Complete FIFA’s short online assessment.
- Review and submit the application, then monitor your email and the platform for updates on the selection process.
The City of Fortaleza says applicants can select the Ceará capital as their preference, but this should not be read as a guarantee of a place or a specific role. Final selection depends on FIFA’s process, the applicant’s profile, availability and the tournament’s operational needs.
What are the FIFA stages after applying?
For Brazil 2027, FIFA has publicly confirmed the current application stage, including the form and short online assessment, and has said that selected volunteers will receive training. As of 16 September 2026, the official announcement reviewed for this guide did not provide specific dates for interviews, role offers or training.
In FIFA’s general volunteer journey, a volunteer goes through an application, an interview stage, acceptance of a role offer, shift booking and delivery of the event assignment. That general framework helps explain what may come next, but the dates and exact format for the 2027 Women’s World Cup should be followed through the tournament’s official channels.
After submitting the form, the practical approach is to keep contact details updated, check spam folders, monitor the platform and respond to invitations within any stated deadline. FIFA also says applications will be open for a limited period and encourages candidates to apply early, but the official material reviewed here does not give a final closing date.
Where and in which areas can volunteers work?
FIFA expects volunteers to support more than 20 functional areas and over 30 roles. Officially cited areas include Media, Technology, Transport, Competition Management and Ceremonies. Assignments are not limited to the stadium: volunteers may work at competition and support sites such as airports, training sites, hotels and other official facilities.
This matters for anyone choosing Fortaleza. Applying for the Host City does not necessarily mean working inside Arena Castelão on every shift. The programme supports the entire Host City operation, so role allocation may place volunteers at different event-related locations.
Benefits: what volunteers receive
| Item | What has been announced |
|---|---|
| Pay | There is no salary: the role is voluntary and unpaid. |
| Application fee | No fee is charged at any stage, according to the City of Fortaleza. |
| Uniform | FIFA says volunteers will receive a full official uniform. |
| Meals | Meals are provided during shifts. |
| Transport | Transport solutions will be provided within the Host City while volunteers are on duty. |
| Training | Selected volunteers will receive training to prepare for their roles. |
| Recognition | FIFA mentions recognition initiatives and tokens of appreciation; Fortaleza also lists exclusive gifts and an official participation certificate at the end of the event. |
The official materials reviewed do not announce airfare or accommodation as benefits. Anyone who lives outside Fortaleza should therefore avoid assuming those costs will be covered and should wait for specific FIFA guidance before making non-refundable travel arrangements.
Why Fortaleza may be an attractive Host City choice
Fortaleza will host nine matches at Arena Castelão: six group-stage games, two round-of-16 matches and one quarter-final. That schedule expands the local event operation across the tournament and helps explain the strong interest in volunteering in the city.
At the same time, the more than 7,300 expressions of interest in Fortaleza show significant demand. The figure does not reveal how many people will complete the application or how many volunteer places will be allocated to the city, so it cannot be converted into an “applicants per place” ratio. FIFA has announced more than 6,000 volunteers for the tournament as a whole, not a public quota for each Host City.
Checklist before you submit
- confirm that you are already 18 or older at the time of application;
- check that you can commit to seven to ten shifts in June and July 2027;
- prepare information about languages, availability and areas of interest;
- if you are an international applicant, confirm your legal entry and stay conditions for Brazil;
- if Fortaleza is your preference, select the city in the form;
- complete the short online assessment as well — do not stop after filling out the form;
- save your login details and monitor email and the platform after submitting;
- do not pay anyone to “guarantee a place”: the official process has no application fee.
What FIFA still needs to confirm
The main eligibility rules, the opening of applications, the overall volunteer target and the core benefits have been announced. In the official materials reviewed up to 16 September 2026, there was still no public final application deadline, no tournament-specific calendar for the later selection stages, no breakdown of places by Host City, no training date, no individual shift schedule and no final role assignment for each candidate.
Anyone who wants to volunteer in Fortaleza should therefore complete the application now and treat any unpublished timetable as pending. For updates, use FIFA’s official application announcement, the official 2027 Women’s World Cup information page and the City of Fortaleza guidance.
