On Friday, September 18, 2026, Semana de Arte do Rio spreads activities across several locations in downtown Rio. For readers deciding what to do now, this guide uses an editorial cutoff of 1:55 p.m. Rio time and prioritizes attractions that have not started yet or are still in progress according to the published schedule. This selection does not replace the full program, which includes dozens of activities today and may be subject to production changes.

The City of Rio highlights venues including Museu do Amanhã, Museu de Arte do Rio, Praça XV, Praça Tiradentes, Capanema and Lapa. The official Semana de Arte do Rio website carries the expanded schedule. Before heading out, check tickets, capacity and possible updates directly on the official program.

How to choose by time of day

Between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.: the most convenient concentration is around Praça Mauá and Praça XV. Sotaque Carregado panels at MAR begin at 2 p.m. and 3:20 p.m., while the Praça XV music program becomes more active from 4 p.m. At the same time, Festival de Bandeiras opens between CCBB and Arco do Teles.

Between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.: the schedule overlaps much more. Praça Tiradentes hosts Festa Brasileira Boi de Parintins until 10 p.m., Casa Brasil opens Dançar diante da Lua at 5 p.m., Lapa has Brasil Suado from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Capanema opens Cidade Batucada at 5:30 p.m. To avoid excessive travel, it makes sense to choose one downtown axis and stay there until early evening.

From 7 p.m. onward: the main choice is between theater, indoor cultural programming and the outdoor music sequence at Praça XV. Macumba Verbal, Pista Quente and Senhora dos Afogados are all scheduled for 7 p.m., so seeing all three is not realistic. Visitors who prefer a continuous evening at one venue can stay at Praça XV until 11:30 p.m. In Lapa, the opening of the Amir Haddad Theater Festival with Fafá de Belém is published for 10 p.m.

Three ways to build a route without trying to see everything

  • Talks and music: MAR at 2 p.m. and 3:20 p.m., then Praça XV from 4 p.m., staying as long as desired through the evening sequence.
  • Visual arts and historic downtown: Festival de Bandeiras at 4 p.m., Casa Brasil at 5 p.m. and, in the evening, a single 7 p.m. attraction.
  • Lapa late in the day: Brasil Suado from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., time to move around the area, then return to Praça dos Arcos for the Fafá de Belém opening at 10 p.m.

What to check before you go

The times above are those published by the organizers and do not guarantee ticket availability, immediate entry or venue capacity. Semana de Arte do Rio combines free events with activities that have their own access rules, so it is important to open each attraction's page in the official program before traveling.

There is also a special traffic operation downtown. CET-Rio reports closures in Lapa throughout the event, including Rua dos Arcos, as well as restrictions around Praça Tiradentes. Rua da Carioca has a closure scheduled from 6 p.m. on September 18, with the operation continuing into the early hours of the following days. Anyone traveling by car, taxi or ride-hailing service should check the details on the Semana de Arte traffic operation and the Rua da Carioca operation pages.

Where to check the full program

The City of Rio published a selection of the main September 18 highlights and states that the first Semana de Arte do Rio runs from September 16 to 27, with hundreds of attractions across several downtown venues. Check the schedule published by the City and the official Semana de Arte do Rio program. For the detailed Sotaque Carregado sequence at Praça XV, see the event page.
