Doubts usually arise when the object no longer fits into household collection: an old sofa, a mattress, a broken television, the remains of a small renovation. In Aracaju, the choice between recycling bin and Cata-Treco depends mainly on two things: the type of waste and whether you can take it to a delivery point. The recycling point is a fixed location where the resident himself delivers accepted materials. Cata-Treco is a collection service for bulky objects at home, by appointment or according to neighborhood schedules.

This guide was checked on August 17, 2026. Aracaju City Hall reported nine recycling points in operation and maintained Cata-Treco as a free service. As schedules, routes and channels may change, it is worth confirming with Emsurb before leaving home or placing any item on the sidewalk.

Ecoponto or Cata-Treco: the practical rule

If the material is accepted at the recycling bin and you can transport it, the recycling bin is usually the most direct option: you choose the unit, take the waste during opening hours and deliver it to the location. This path covers everything from furniture and appliances to recyclables, electronics, pruning, plaster and small volumes of construction waste.

If the problem is a large, useless household item that you cannot transport, such as a sofa, bed, mattress or bulky appliance, Cata-Treco is the alternative for doorstep collection. Emsurb informs that the service works both by request and by prior programming in the neighborhoods.

For construction debris, the safest option is the recycling bin. The official pages consulted treat construction waste as recycling material and describe Cata-Treco as a collection of large unusable objects. In other words: do not use Cata-Treco as a replacement for a dumpster for renovation.

Which destination to use for each material

Furniture, mattresses and large household items

Sofa, bed, mattress, dismantled cabinet and other useless furniture can be taken to recycling bins. When volume or weight make transportation difficult, Cata-Treco is the most convenient option: the City Hall cites old furniture, mattresses and other large objects among the materials collected by the service.

Household appliances and electronics

Ecopoints receive household appliances and electronic waste. This includes, for example, television, monitor, computer and small unused appliances. For large household appliances or other bulky electronics that are not feasible to carry on your own, Cata-Treco also appears in Emsurb's guidelines as an alternative for bulky waste, especially broken appliances.

Batteries and lamps

The City Hall includes batteries and light bulbs among the materials accepted at recycling bins and advises that they be properly packaged. The idea is not to mix them with household waste. If the lamp is intact, transport it in a way to avoid breakage; for a different situation or large quantity, please confirm with Emsurb in advance.

Pruning, branches and plaster

Pruning remains, branches, saw dust and plaster appear in the official guidelines on materials received at recycling points. For this waste, the route is delivery to the recycling bin, not regular home collection.

Small construction debris

Blocks, concrete, gravel and other construction waste can be sent to recycling bins. The most recent official guidance located that quantifies this type of disposal establishes up to 1 m³ per generator. As the ecopoints page published in March 2026 does not repeat the limit, anyone close to or above this volume must confirm the current operational rule with Emsurb. For larger volumes, the City Hall itself has already advised the hiring of a specialized company for collection and disposal.

Paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and metal

Ecopoints also receive recyclables. The Emsurb Service Guide advises to separate paper, plastic, glass and metal and, when applicable, keep them clean and dry. For everyday recyclables, municipal selective collection is also an alternative; the recycling bin makes more sense when you want to take the material directly to a unit.

Common trash

Organic waste and common household waste should not be taken to recycling bins. The City Hall advises that this waste should be collected regularly. The Service Guide also informs that hospital material is not accepted at recycling points.

How to order Cata-Treco

In May 2026, the City Hall informed that Cata-Treco could be requested via the Aju Inteligente platform or by calling (79) 3021-9908 and (79) 3021-9999, the latter being also available for contact via WhatsApp. Emsurb's Service Guide also mentions the Ombudsman's Office through the 1DOC system. For those who prefer telephone, both numbers continued to be published in July 2026.

In addition to individual requests, Emsurb publishes weekly itineraries by neighborhood. In an official schedule dated July 13, 2026, residents were instructed to leave objects at the door of their residence from 8 am on the day the team would pass through the neighborhood. As the itinerary changes, do not use an old schedule as a permanent calendar: consult the current week or schedule it.

To prevent the material from becoming irregular disposal, it is best to wait for confirmation of service or the correct day of the itinerary before placing furniture and appliances on the street. If there is any doubt about what will be collected, describe the item, approximate size and quantity when speaking to the Ombudsman.

What Cata-Treco solves and what it doesn't replace

The Cata-Treco exists to remove useless and large objects from the residence that are not included in conventional household collection. In 2025, City Hall registered more than 800 requests between January and April; Among the most collected items were sofas, beds, mattresses and broken appliances. Publications from 2026 maintained the service and programming by neighborhoods.

This does not transform the service into collection for any type of waste. Construction debris must be sent to the recycling bin within the informed operational limit; small recyclables can be sent to recycling bins or selective collection; Ordinary waste goes to household collection. This separation avoids the mistake of putting everything on the sidewalk waiting for the same truck to collect it.

Before leaving home, do one last check

The decision can be summarized as follows: large furniture or appliances that you cannot take with you, ask Cata-Treco; mobile, electronic, recyclable, pruning, plaster or small debris that you can transport, use a recycling bin; common household waste, keep it in regular collection. For rubble

close to 1 m³, unusual loads, large quantities of batteries or lamps and any material about which there is doubt, confirm acceptance with Emsurb before transport.

With this filter, ecoponto and Cata-Treco no longer appear to be competing services. They complement each other: one receives waste at fixed points and accepts a greater variety of materials; the other solves the removal of bulky items at the door. The correct choice reduces wasted travel, avoids material abandoned on the street and allows the waste to be forwarded as provided by the municipal service.
