Blue Box Season 2: what to remember about Taiki, Chinatsu, Hina and Yumeka before October 4

A manga-spoiler-free recap: where Taiki, Chinatsu and Hina stand after Season 1, who Yumeka is, and what the official Season 2 PV already signals.

Blue Box returns on October 4, 2026, and you do not need to rewatch 25 episodes to understand the essentials going into Season 2. The starting point is simple: Season 1 closed one part of the triangle involving Taiki, Chinatsu and Hina, but left the central relationship without a formal definition. At the same time, official Season 2 promotion introduces Yumeka Kido, someone from Chinatsu's basketball past, as an important piece of the next arc.

This recap stays strictly within what the anime showed in Season 1 and what official Season 2 promotional material has revealed. It contains no spoilers for later manga events.

What you actually need to remember before Season 2

CharacterWhere Season 1 left themWhy it matters for Season 2
Taiki InomataHe is still in love with Chinatsu and decides not to keep Hina tied to a hope he cannot return. He enters the new season more honest about the direction of his feelings while continuing to chase growth in badminton.
Chinatsu KanoLiving with Taiki created intimacy and several moments of closeness, but the two are still not officially a couple.Season 2 material emphasizes changing relationships and feelings, while also putting Chinatsu's basketball story back at the center of the drama.
Hina ChonoShe confessed her feelings and received Taiki's answer near the end of the season, ending the indefinite wait. Her challenge now is dealing with rejection without losing her friendship, school life or identity as an athlete.
Yumeka KidoShe was not yet an active part of the Season 1 narrative. She is Chinatsu's former mini-basketball teammate, a highly talented player Chinatsu admired, and Season 2 promotion positions her as a decisive presence.

Taiki: the end of indecision is not the end of conflict

Taiki begins the story as a first-year high school student devoted to badminton and in love with upperclassman Chinatsu. Their closeness takes an unusual turn when Chinatsu moves into the Inomata family home because her parents are moving abroad. Season 1 uses that living arrangement to bring them closer without treating physical proximity as a solved romance.

The most important point at the end is Taiki's decision regarding Hina. The official synopsis for Episode 25 says he realizes that maintaining an ambiguous attitude could hurt her and therefore gives her an answer to her confession. In practical terms, the anime closes the possibility of Taiki treating the triangle as something that can remain suspended indefinitely. Afterward, he tries to stay true to what he feels and refocuses energy on badminton as well.

That does not make Taiki "conflict-free" in Season 2. The opposite is true: he now has to turn internal clarity into action. Season 1 ended with his bond with Chinatsu closer but still delicate, and sport remains central to his self-esteem and to the way he relates to her.

Chinatsu: closeness, athletic pressure and feelings that are still unnamed

Chinatsu is a second-year student and a standout on Eimei's girls' basketball team. From the beginning, Taiki admires both her talent and discipline. Over the course of Season 1, however, she stops functioning only as "the idealized girl": the anime shows performance pressure, competitive frustration, team responsibilities and moments when she turns to Taiki precisely because she feels safe around him.

Living under the same roof also changes the nature of their relationship. Taiki remains clearly in love, but Chinatsu increasingly responds to his presence in personal ways. The official Season 2 site reinforces that axis through a sequence of visuals themed around moments when "Chinatsu's heart moved," revisiting memories of the beach, the aquarium, the gym and other points of closeness already shown or suggested by the anime.

The important detail is not to anticipate an answer Season 1 has not formally given. Going into Season 2, the correct status is: Taiki knows where his feelings point; Chinatsu shows a strong bond and emotional shifts, but their relationship still has new decisions to cross.

Hina: rejection changes the triangle, but it does not erase her character

Hina starts as Taiki's longtime friend who knows about his crush on Chinatsu and initially supports him. The conflict grows when she realizes her own feelings have changed. From that point on, Season 1 makes Hina live with two painful certainties at once: she likes Taiki, and she knows he likes someone else.

The final stretch brings that conflict to the answer she had been postponing. In Episode 24, Hina still imagines she can wait until Taiki grows to love her; in the next episode, Taiki decides that leaving the situation in that middle ground would be unfair. The rejection hurts, and the anime does not treat that pain as something that vanishes in one scene.

For Season 2, the best way to remember Hina is not as "the third point that lost," but as someone who must rebuild ordinary interaction after making herself vulnerable. She remains a high-level rhythmic gymnast, a schoolmate and an important part of Taiki's circle. Ayame, who grew closer to Hina near the end of the season, also functions as emotional support at this point.

Yumeka: what is official and what we should not assume yet

Yumeka Kido is the most important new element among the four names in this recap. Her official character profile says she played mini-basketball with Chinatsu, had exceptional talent and was an athlete Chinatsu herself admired. The two grew distant after Yumeka moved because of family circumstances. Yumeka is also a second-year high school student.

That alone explains why her arrival carries weight: she connects the new season to Chinatsu's athletic past, not only to romance. The teaser released in March 2026 uses one of Yumeka's lines and her character voice to signal turbulence, while the August main visual and PV highlight relationships changing with the seasons and shifting emotions.

What cannot safely be concluded from promotional material alone: the full reason behind their distance, how the reunion will unfold, the exact conflict that will emerge or where Yumeka's story ends. Those belong to the Season 2 story itself and, for viewers who want to avoid manga spoilers, are better left open.

What the new PV actually adds

The main PV, released on August 26, 2026, is not just a collection of attractive shots. The official description emphasizes three ideas: changing seasons, changing relationships and wavering feelings. The main visual shows Chinatsu lying in the snow, reinforcing a more introspective mood.

Combined with the earlier Yumeka-centered teaser, this suggests a second season that depends less on the question "who likes whom?" and more on what happens after feelings have already been recognized. For Taiki and Hina, there is a concrete consequence to the answer at the end of Season 1. For Taiki and Chinatsu, there is a need to advance or redefine their closeness. For Chinatsu and Yumeka, there is a sports history the series has just placed directly in front of the audience.

The promotion also confirmed the opening theme "Anata no Hana no Iro" by aiko and the ending theme "blue in" by Elsewhere Kikou.
