The 2026 Detran-SP public recruitment exam offers 145 immediate vacancies for State Traffic Agent, plus a reserve list. The key point before paying the application fee is to separate two sets of rules that the notice addresses at different stages: requirements for admission to the job, such as a higher-education degree and at least a category B driver’s license, and documents that must be submitted during the application period in specific situations, such as applying for disability-reserved vacancies, using differentiated scoring, requesting special test conditions, or presenting a National Migration Registration document (RNM).

Applications remain open until 7 October 2026 through Instituto Avalia. The fee is R$ 98.00 and may be paid until 8 October, according to the notice schedule. The objective test and essay are scheduled for 1 November 2026, in the afternoon.

Degree and driver’s license: what is required for admission

The notice lists among the basic requirements for admission: passing and ranking in the exam, being at least 18 years old at admission, physical and mental fitness, compliance with electoral obligations and, when applicable, military obligations, as well as a registered higher-education degree from a recognized course and at least a category B driver’s license. Other admission conditions are described in section 3 of the notice, including presentation of the Brazilian work record (CTPS) and the age limit stated in the document.

The notice does not list the degree and driver’s license among the uploads in the standard application schedule; it lists them as admission requirements. Before paying, candidates should therefore make sure they will be able to prove these conditions when called for admission. Passing the exam does not remove the obligation to meet all hiring requirements.

Apply by 7 October and pay by 8 October: do not mix up the deadlines

The application form must be completed online on the Instituto Avalia website by 11:59 p.m. on 7 October. The candidate also selects the city where they wish to take the tests. Once the form is finalized, the selected test city cannot be changed.

The fee is paid by PIX using the payment slip or QR Code generated for the application. The schedule allows payment until 8 October; the exam page states that a second copy of the PIX payment slip is available until 11 p.m. that day. An application without valid payment within the deadline, except in fee-waiver cases, is not confirmed.

There is another detail to note: if a candidate submits two or more applications, the notice states that the last application effectively completed will be considered valid. Candidates are also responsible for the accuracy of the information they provide.

Fee waiver or reduction

The period to request a fee waiver or reduction ran from 9 to 14 September. For candidates who submitted a request within that period, the schedule sets 15 September 2026 as the last day to upload the corresponding documents. The preliminary result is scheduled for 21 September, appeals for 22 and 23 September, and the final result for 29 September.

Disability vacancies, differentiated scoring and other documents: deadline 8 October

The notice reserves 5% of vacancies for people with disabilities; the initial table contains 7 disability-reserved vacancies. To compete under this category, selecting the option on the form is not enough. Candidates must upload the documentation required by section 6 of the notice through the specific organizer link by 8 October.

For disability-reserved vacancies, the required documentation includes a legible medical report containing the candidate’s name and CPF, the type and degree or level of disability, ICD code, date of issue, and the identifying details of the professional who issued it, plus copies of an official identification document and CPF proof. The notice also sets validity periods for the medical report and additional requirements for certain disabilities. Files must follow the formats accepted by the organizer; a password-protected PDF may lead to rejection.

The same 8 October deadline applies, under Annex III, to electronic submission of documents relating to special test conditions, differentiated scoring for Black, Brown and Indigenous candidates, and RNM, when applicable. Differentiated scoring does not create a separate list of reserved vacancies: it is a scoring system established under São Paulo state rules, and candidates who wish to use it must choose the option during the application and meet the documentation requirements in section 7.

How the 1 November tests will work

The selection has two phases administered on the same day: an Objective Test and an Essay Test. The notice provides a total of five hours for both tests, administered in the afternoon.

To avoid elimination in the objective test, the candidate must score at least 6.0 points and must not score zero in any knowledge area, in addition to meeting the other criteria in the notice.

The essay is worth 10 points, is both eliminatory and classificatory, and requires a 20- to 30-line argumentative essay. The minimum score is 6.0. The essay is administered to all registered candidates, but on the general list it will be graded only for candidates who pass the objective test and rank up to ten times the total number of vacancies, plus candidates tied at the final position within that limit. Essays from candidates registered for disability-reserved vacancies who meet the stated criteria will also be graded regardless of their position on the general list.

Test cities and a choice that requires attention

The notice provides for testing, at a minimum, in 17 cities in São Paulo state: Araçatuba, Araraquara, Bauru, Campinas, Guarulhos, Itapeva, Osasco, Ourinhos, Piracicaba, Presidente Prudente, Ribeirão Preto, Santos, São José do Rio Preto, São José dos Campos, São Paulo, Sorocaba and Taubaté. The city is selected on the application form and cannot be changed after the form is finalized.

Test locations and times are scheduled to be released on 26 October. On test day, the notice instructs candidates to arrive at least 60 minutes before the gates close, carrying a transparent ballpoint pen with blue or black ink, an official photo ID, and a printed Candidate Information Card.

Checklist before submitting and paying

  • Degree: confirm that your graduation meets the recognized higher-education requirement.
  • Driver’s license: make sure you have, or will be able to prove, at least a category B license when required for admission.
  • Test city: choose carefully because the finalized form does not allow changes.
  • Disability, differentiated scoring, special conditions or RNM: check whether additional documents apply to you and upload everything by 8 October.
  • Fee: generate the PIX payment and make sure it is actually settled by 8 October; do not rely on a payment that is only scheduled.
  • Application status: check the preliminary application result on 14 October and the final result on 22 October.
  • Test: reserve 1 November and check the location and time release on 26 October.

Where to follow official updates

The main document is the Detran-SP Public Exam Notice No. 1 of 8 September 2026. Candidates should also monitor the Instituto Avalia exam page, the Detran-SP special exam page, and the São Paulo State Official Gazette. The notice itself warns that dates, rules and exam acts may be updated, so checking official channels remains necessary even after the application fee has been paid.
