Champions League 2026/27 Matchday 1: what we know so far about fixtures, kickoff times and where to watch in Brazil

UEFA has already set the opponents, but has not yet distributed the 18 matches across 8-10 September. The schedule is due by 29 August; in Brazil, HBO Max will carry every match.

As of the morning of 28 August 2026, Matchday 1 of the Champions League 2026/27 league phase still did not have a complete official schedule with the 18 matches distributed across 8, 9 and 10 September. The 27 August draw determined each club's eight opponents and the home team for each fixture, but UEFA separated the scheduling process into a later stage. The organization said the dates and kickoff times for each match will be announced no later than Saturday, 29 August.

That changes the answer for anyone currently looking for a closed list of matches, Brasília kickoff times and the channel for each game. The league-phase fixtures already exist, but it is not yet possible to say, on an official basis, which of them will open the competition on Tuesday, which will be played on Wednesday or Thursday, and in which time slot each one will start. What can already be stated with confidence is the Matchday 1 date range, the timing structure and the broadcast setup in Brazil.

The draw set the opponents, not the order of the matches

The Champions League keeps a 36-club league phase. Each team plays eight matches, four at home and four away, against eight different opponents. The draw held in Monaco on 27 August established those pairings and the home/away designation, but it did not organize the fixtures by matchday.

That is why seeing that Arsenal will host Real Madrid, Paris will host Barcelona or Liverpool will host Atlético de Madrid does not mean any of those games will necessarily take place on Matchday 1. They are confirmed fixtures for some point during the eight matchdays of the league phase. The order becomes official only when UEFA publishes the full fixture list.

UEFA itself explains that its administration decides which matches will be played on Tuesday, Wednesday and, exclusively on Matchday 1, also on Thursday. The organization still has to combine that distribution with stadium, city and home-sequence restrictions before publishing the final schedule.

When Champions League 2026/27 Matchday 1 will be played

Matchday 1 is officially reserved for 8, 9 and 10 September 2026. There will be 18 matches in total, because all 36 participants play once during the matchday.

Tuesday, 8 September

The date is confirmed in UEFA's calendar, but the individual matches and kickoff times are still awaiting publication of the fixture list. It is not safe to fill in matchups by inference from the draw.

Wednesday, 9 September

The same applies to Wednesday. Matchday 1 games will be played, but the official distribution of clubs and kickoff times had not been released by the morning of 28 August.

Thursday, 10 September

Thursday is a special feature of the opening matchday. The Champions League regulations provide for matches across three days only on Matchday 1 of the league phase; on subsequent matchdays, the general rule returns to Tuesday and Wednesday.

What kickoff times to expect in Brasília

The 2026/27 regulations establish that league-phase matches start, in principle, at 21:00 in the Central European time used by UEFA, with two matches each day in an early 18:45 window. On Matchday 1, that early-window rule also applies on Thursday. UEFA can make exceptions, so the individual kickoff time for each game still depends on the official schedule.

During the week of 8 to 10 September, those windows normally correspond to 16:00 and 13:45 in Brasília. The same difference was observed in the August playoffs, when matches scheduled by UEFA for 21:00 appeared in Brazilian broadcasts at 16:00. Even so, the definitive guide should use the published time for each match rather than relying only on the standard conversion.

Where to watch the Champions League in Brazil in 2026/27

The simplest part for anyone who wants guaranteed access to any game is streaming. Warner Bros. Discovery keeps HBO Max as the platform with full Champions League coverage in Brazil. That means that regardless of which 18 fixtures are placed on Matchday 1, all of them will be available to HBO Max subscribers.

On pay TV, TNT and Space show selected matches. The choice of which game goes to each channel depends on the schedule released by TNT Sports after UEFA's fixture list is finalized. Therefore, there is still not enough basis to assign TNT or Space to a specific fixture on 8, 9 or 10 September.

TNT Sports on YouTube will have free matches, but the selection is still pending

The 2026/27 season brings an important change: TNT Sports announced 31 free Champions League matches on its YouTube channel. The package spans every league-phase matchday and also reaches the knockout rounds.

That guarantees free YouTube coverage throughout the league phase, but it does not allow anyone to anticipate which Matchday 1 fixture will be selected. The choice must be confirmed by TNT Sports after publication of the fixture list and broadcast schedule.

For viewers, the practical difference is clear. HBO Max is the already confirmed option for any match; TNT Sports' YouTube channel is a free alternative for selected games, with the opening-matchday lineup still undefined.

SBT holds the free-to-air TV rights through 2026/27

SBT renewed the Champions League free-to-air TV rights for the 2024/25, 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons. The broadcaster therefore remains part of the tournament this season.

What had not yet been published on 28 August was the Matchday 1 game selection. In recent broadcasts of the competition, SBT also used +SBT for the digital feed of matches shown by the network, as happened during the August playoffs. That shows the recent operating pattern, but it

does not replace a specific announcement for 8 to 10 September.

Why a complete, reliable Brazilian table does not exist yet

To build a truly complete match-by-match guide, three pieces of information have to align. First, UEFA must say which fixture falls on which day. Then, it must confirm the individual kickoff time. Finally, Brazilian broadcasters have to indicate which selected games will go to TNT, Space, TNT Sports' YouTube channel and SBT.

At this point, only the third layer has a complete answer for every match: HBO Max is already confirmed as the destination for full coverage. The other platforms depend on selection. Any table that assigns all 18 fixtures to days, kickoff times and channels before UEFA's official publication risks mixing opponents determined by the draw with an order that has not yet been announced.

What can already be used to plan the matchday

Anyone intending to follow the entire opening matchday can reserve the afternoons of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8 to 10 September. The reference windows in Brasília are 13:45 and 16:00, subject to exceptions UEFA may determine. For access to any match, HBO Max is the already confirmed option.

Anyone who prefers free-to-air TV or a free stream should wait for the specific lineup. SBT holds the free-to-air TV rights for the season, and TNT Sports will have free matches on YouTube, but neither fact by itself identifies which fixture will be shown on Matchday 1. TNT and Space also depend on Warner Bros. Discovery's selection for pay TV.

When the definitive list can be completed

UEFA said it will publish the list of matches with dates and kickoff times no later than 29 August. When that happens, Matchday 1 can be organized correctly into 18 fixtures, separated across 8, 9 and 10 September, with the times converted to Brasília.

The next step will be to cross-reference that official schedule with Brazilian programming. Because HBO Max carries every match, that field can be filled in immediately. For SBT, +SBT, TNT, Space and TNT Sports' YouTube channel, announcements from the broadcasters themselves will be needed to avoid assigning a broadcast that has not been confirmed.

Direct answer

As of 28 August, Champions League 2026/27 Matchday 1 is confirmed for 8 to 10 September, but UEFA has not yet released which of the 18 matches will take place on each day and at each kickoff time. The regulatory windows generally point to 13:45 and 16:00 in Brasília. In Brazil, HBO Max is already confirmed for every match; TNT and Space will have selected games, TNT Sports will carry 31 free matches on YouTube over the course of the season, and SBT retains the free-to-air TV rights through the end of 2026/27. The match-by-match broadcast grid can only be completed after the official fixture list and the broadcasters' selections.
