Joao Pedro and Reece James remain under assessment
Head coach Xabi Alonso said before the match that Joao Pedro and Reece James had not been ruled out. Joao Pedro became a doubt after withdrawing from Brazil's squad for the upcoming international break, while James missed the start of a training session that was open to the media on Tuesday.
Alonso's official position was cautious: the final decision would be made after the last training session. Until the starting team is released, the accurate description is that both are being assessed, not confirmed absentees or guaranteed starters.
Caicedo is closer to returning, but is not confirmed
On Moises Caicedo, Alonso said the midfielder is getting closer to a return, but again left the final call until the last assessment before the game. Caicedo has had limited involvement early in the season, and his place in the matchday squad had not been confirmed at the time of the official update.
