The Orchid Exhibition organized by the Círculo Gaúcho de Orquidófilos takes place in the Event Space at Porto Alegre's Public Market from September 25 to 27, 2026, with free admission. For weekend visitors, the key is to distinguish three activities: the plant exhibition, the talks and workshops, and the area selling orchids and cultivation supplies.
Exhibition hours on Saturday and Sunday
| Date | Exhibition | Sales area | Talks and workshops |
|---|---|---|---|
| September 26, Saturday | 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. | 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. | 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. |
| September 27, Sunday | 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. | 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. | No times announced by the City Hall for this day |
The exhibition is held in the Public Market's Event Space. The sales area is next to the escalator. According to Porto Alegre City Hall, Saturday's talks and workshops also take place in the Event Space, are free, open to the public, and require no advance registration.
What visitors will find at the exhibition
The program brings together hundreds of plants and dozens of exhibitors from different orchid associations in Rio Grande do Sul. Plants compete in different categories, and visitors can also see a large garden assembled by the Círculo Gaúcho de Orquidófilos.
The 2026 edition honors Cattleya intermedia aquinii, a species native to Porto Alegre that was discovered between 1874 and 1875 in the islands area. In 2025, it was established as Porto Alegre's official flower symbol by Municipal Law No. 14,350.
Exhibition, workshop and sales: what is the difference?
- Exhibition: the visit to the orchid display, including competition plants and the event garden. Admission is free.
- Talks and workshops: free activities on Saturday, September 26, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. No advance registration is required, according to the municipal announcement.
- Sales: a separate area next to the escalator where orchids and cultivation supplies are sold. Buying products is not required to visit the exhibition.
How to plan your visit
Visitors who want to combine the exhibition with a free activity should prioritize Saturday and arrive before 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. Those who only want to browse the exhibition can choose Saturday or Sunday, keeping in mind that it closes at 6 p.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Because City Hall says the activities are open and require no advance registration, arriving somewhat early may be useful for the scheduled talks and workshops. The announcement reviewed does not specify seat reservations or activity capacity.
