Families in Poços de Caldas have until September 30, 2026 to submit an expression of interest for a place in the municipal early childhood education network. The procedure covers children aged 0 to 3, children who turn 4 after March 31, and pregnant applicants. Registration is available online or in person and places the child on a waiting list. It does not confirm an immediate place.

The deadline and rules were reinforced by the City Hall in a notice published on September 15. The main reference for the procedure is the official announcement from Poços de Caldas City Hall.

Who can submit an expression of interest

According to the Municipal Department of Education, the September registration covers:

  • children aged 0 to 3;
  • children who turn 4 after March 31;
  • pregnant applicants who want to enter the place-request process.

The municipal notice links the registration to Berçário I, Berçário II, Maternal I and Maternal II groups. To reduce the risk of classification errors, families should enter the date of birth and the address used for registration accurately.

In-person service is particularly useful for families who have difficulty accessing the internet or completing the form. City Hall published the same address and hours in the notice reopening registration in September.

Which documents are required

Applicants must upload to the online form or present in person:

  • the child's birth certificate or identity card;
  • a photo ID for the child's legal guardian;
  • proof of address issued within the previous 60 days, in the legal guardian's name.

For proof of address, City Hall says it accepts a water bill, electricity bill, residential telephone bill, residential internet bill, rental agreement, or a declaration from the neighborhood PSF health unit bearing a stamp and signature.

Pregnant applicants should note one point: the official notice confirms that they can register, but the general document list is written for children who have already been born and does not specify in the published text which document replaces a birth certificate before delivery. If the online form does not provide enough guidance, the in-person service can be used to confirm the procedure directly with the school administration team.

How the waiting list and zoning work

Submitting the registration places the child on the waiting list for units connected to the relevant zoning area. In an official 2026 response from the Municipal Department of Education to the City Council, the municipality stated that allocation follows the chronological order of registration and gives priority to units in the area of the family's residence or the legal guardian's workplace.

The same document says places are assigned according to the zoning of the family's residence or workplace while respecting the chronological order of the waiting list. Calls to complete enrollment can occur throughout the year whenever a place becomes available, including after a withdrawal or transfer. These criteria are set out in Municipal Department of Education Letter 035/2026.

What registration does not guarantee

An expression-of-interest registration is not enrollment and does not guarantee immediate placement in a specific CEI. City Hall states that, after registration, the child is added to the waiting list according to demand and zoning. In practical terms, placement depends on the child's position in the queue and availability in the corresponding units.

Families should therefore keep the information supplied accurate and watch for future municipal communications. The municipality also has public waiting-list rules established by Municipal Law 9,450/2021.

Checklist before submitting

  1. Confirm that the child falls within the eligible age group or that the application will be made as a pregnant applicant.
  2. Prepare the child's birth certificate or identity card, when applicable, the guardian's photo ID and valid proof of address.
  3. Check that the proof of address was issued within the previous 60 days and is in the legal guardian's name.
  4. For online registration, make sure uploaded files are readable before submitting.
  5. Review the address and other details that can affect zoning.
  6. Complete the process by September 30, 2026. If the form is difficult to use, choose the in-person service from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

What families need to remember

The key distinction is between registration and placement. By September 30, the family records its interest and provides the documents. The child then joins the waiting list for the applicable zoning area, and a call depends on chronological order and available places. Completing the registration on time with the correct documents is the necessary step to enter that process.
