Flamengo and Estudiantes de La Plata already know the order of their 2026 CONMEBOL Libertadores semi-final matches. In the official schedule available on 18 September, Estudiantes host Flamengo on 14 October and Flamengo host the second leg on 21 October. Kick-off times are still listed as TBC, meaning to be confirmed, and the competition page does not yet display a stadium for either match.

The tie was confirmed after the quarter-finals were completed. CONMEBOL placed Estudiantes vs Flamengo in one semi-final and Fluminense vs Palmeiras in the other. The winner of the Brazilian-Argentine tie will advance to the final scheduled for 28 November 2026 at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.

This timeline reflects the official CONMEBOL Libertadores schedule, which already shows the clubs and home teams on both dates. The first-leg match page also lists 14 October while keeping the kick-off time as TBC. It is therefore premature to treat a kick-off time or venue as final until CONMEBOL or the clubs publish an update.

What is confirmed and what is still pending

How Flamengo and Estudiantes reached the semi-finals

Estudiantes eliminated Corinthians in the quarter-finals. After a 1-1 draw in La Plata, the Argentine side won 1-0 at Neo Química Arena and took the tie 2-1 on aggregate. According to CONMEBOL's official quarter-final recap, the club returned to the Libertadores semi-finals for the first time since 2009.

Flamengo advanced against Independiente del Valle. They won the first leg in Ecuador 2-0 and drew 1-1 at the Maracanã in the return, completing a 3-1 aggregate win. That result completed the line-up of the four semi-finalists.

The teams have already met in the 2026 Libertadores

The semi-final will not be the first meeting between Flamengo and Estudiantes in this edition. Both teams were in Group A and played twice in the group stage. On 29 April in La Plata, the match ended 1-1. On 20 May in Rio de Janeiro, Flamengo won 1-0. The official Group A schedule records both matches.

Those results provide context but carry no advantage into the knockout tie. The semi-final starts at 0-0 on aggregate and will be decided solely by the two October matches.

How a semi-final tie is settled

The semi-final is decided by the aggregate score across the two legs. The 2026 Libertadores Club Manual states that if the aggregate score remains level after the second leg, qualification is decided by a penalty shootout. There is no extra time at this stage.

This also means neither club has an advantage for scoring more away goals. If the combined score is level after the second match, the tie goes directly to penalties.

What comes next

The winner of Estudiantes vs Flamengo will face the winner of Fluminense vs Palmeiras in the final. CONMEBOL has confirmed the decider for 28 November as a single match at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.

Until the semi-final schedule is updated with the remaining details, the key planning sequence is already fixed: first leg on 14 October with Estudiantes at home, second leg on 21 October with Flamengo at home and, for the team that advances, the final in Montevideo on 28 November.
