Visits to the rooftop of the Edifício Copan resumed in September 2026 after a six-year suspension. If you want to go on a Saturday, the main rule is to book in advance: the official calendar uses limited-capacity timed entries, tickets cost R$50 per person, and each visit has a set departure time. Copan's own website now also lists visits on Fridays and Sundays, in addition to Saturdays, so it is better to check the live calendar when booking rather than rely only on the first reopening announcements.
Current rules for visiting Copan's rooftop
| Item | Current information |
|---|---|
| Ticket | R$50 per person |
| Saturdays | 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., subject to availability in the calendar |
| Duration | 30 minutes |
| Capacity | 16 people per time slot; the elevator carries eight at a time, so the group goes up in two batches |
| Booking | Advance purchase through Copan's official visit page |
| Payment | PIX or card |
| Meeting point | Main entrance at Av. Ipiranga, 200, in front of Café Floresta |
| Arrival | 15 minutes before the reserved time |
| Final access | Two narrow flights of stairs between the 32nd floor and the rooftop |
These conditions reflect the official page checked on September 10, 2026. On that date, the displayed calendar included dates from September 11 through October 4, but new dates and remaining availability can change.
How to book and pay for a ticket
- Open the official “Visite a cobertura” booking page.
- Select a date and one of the time slots that still has places available.
- Enter the number of visitors and the requested details, including full name, email, identification document and phone number.
- Pay by PIX or card. The page states immediate confirmation for PIX and instant approval for card payments.
- Check your email: the ticket is sent with a QR code.
The website also states that cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the scheduled time. Because capacity is limited, booking early lowers the risk that your preferred Saturday will sell out.
How the Saturday visit works
On Saturdays, the official schedule is split into two blocks: morning, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and afternoon, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Available times appear in the booking system and can sell out individually. The experience is guided and lasts about 30 minutes from start to finish.
Each time slot opens 16 places. That does not mean all 16 visitors ride the elevator together: the rooftop elevator carries eight people at a time, so the group ascends in two batches and remains accompanied during the ascent, visit and descent. Visitors are not allowed to move around the tour areas on their own.
Access includes stairs and is not wheelchair accessible
The elevator takes visitors high into the building, but it does not end at the rooftop. The final section requires climbing two narrow flights of stairs from the 32nd floor. According to the administration, because the building is protected as a heritage property, there is no alternative route installed for this section.
In practical terms, the visit is not currently accessible to wheelchair users and may be difficult for people with reduced mobility. This should be considered before buying a ticket because the stairs are part of the regular route to the viewpoint.
Where to meet, what happens if you are late, and the rain policy
The meeting point is Copan's main entrance at Av. Ipiranga, 200, in front of Café Floresta. The current instruction is to arrive 15 minutes early. The group leaves on time and the administration says it will not wait for late arrivals; missing the departure can mean losing the ticket.
The visit still takes place in rain because the rooftop has a covered area. In heavy rain with a risk of lightning, departure may be delayed by up to 30 minutes while conditions improve.
Why you should check new dates on the official channel
The first reopening announcements focused on Saturdays and smaller groups, but the service has already expanded. On September 10, the official page listed guided visits on Fridays from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The booking system itself is the best reference for which dates are actually open and how many places remain.
Schools, researchers and tour groups with their own guide can also arrange visits directly with Copan's administration for the ground floor, common areas and rooftop.
What changed with the reopening
Visits had been suspended in 2019 and resumed on September 5, 2026. Unlike the previous free model, the current visit is paid, with revenue directed to restoration work on the protected façade. The reopening and R$50 price were reported by Folha de S.Paulo and CNN Brasil, while operational rules such as duration, capacity, stairs, cancellation and schedules should be checked directly through the official channel.
