Luma Island on PS5: what was announced and what remains unconfirmed

Luma Island is confirmed for PS5 with online co-op, cross-platform play and three difficulty modes. Here are the announced features and why its release date is still undecided.

Luma Island was announced for PlayStation 5 on September 24, 2026. The PS5 version of Feel Free Games' farming and adventure title is confirmed, but no release day or month has been announced. When checked on September 27, the US PlayStation Store marked it as announced and said the release date was to be determined; the developer's official materials described the console versions only as coming soon.

The announcement makes it possible to distinguish what PS5 players can expect from what remains open. The game can already be added to a PlayStation Store wishlist, but that does not mean it has launched, is available to pre-order, or has a confirmed release schedule.

What was announced for PS5

The PlayStation Blog announcement was written by Bram Eisenhardt, lead developer at Feel Free Games. The studio confirms that Luma Island is coming to PS5 following its PC debut in November 2024. According to the team, more than 800,000 players had visited the island since the PC launch. The official press kit gives November 20, 2024 as the PC release date, which must not be confused with the still-undetermined console release date.

Players begin with an old caravan and a rundown farm. They can grow crops, raise animals, build and decorate the property, meet townsfolk, choose from eight professions, and hatch Lumas, magical companions that join their explorations.

The adventure extends beyond the farm to forests, mountains, jungles, resource-filled caves, ancient temples with puzzles and traps, hidden treasure, and Pirate Cove, which has pirate-themed activities and challenges. These activities are included in the game's official console presentation; the announcement does not place them on a separate update schedule.

Online co-op and cross-platform play

The developer describes solo play or online co-op for up to four people. Players can build together, share resources and explore the island. The announcement also confirms planned cross-platform play across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, allowing friends to use different systems. It confirms the intended feature but gives no specific date for the console versions to become available.

The US PlayStation Store listing says PS Plus is required for online play and that up to four online players are supported with the subscription. Those are the conditions shown in the store page consulted, not a confirmation of local couch co-op; anyone planning to play online should also check the requirements in their region.

Difficulty, exploration and pace

Three difficulty modes have been announced: Cozy, Adventure and Hero. In Cozy, there is no combat unless the player chooses it; Adventure and Hero introduce more challenges. The announcement therefore presents Luma Island as more than a farm simulator: temple exploration and varying degrees of challenge are also part of its design.

The studio also says the game has no stamina bars or inventory limits. As described by its creators, that lets players move between farming, fishing, crafting and exploration without those two restrictions. This should not be taken to mean that every rule, obstacle or challenge has been removed.

What the PS5 store page says about features

Beyond gameplay, the US PlayStation Store page lists DualSense wireless controller vibration, Remote Play and 11 accessibility features. Examples given on the listing include volume controls, 3D audio, basic control remapping and adjustable difficulty. These are store-listing details, not a complete technical specification.

Neither the announcement nor the listing consulted specifies resolution, frame rate or other performance targets for the PS5 edition. The documents also do not establish a PS4 version. A listing for DualSense vibration alone does not confirm specific adaptive-trigger features.

Release date, price and pre-orders: what remains unconfirmed

  • PS5 release date: not announced as of September 27, 2026. 'Coming soon' does not establish a day, month or fixed launch window.
  • PS5 price: not provided in the materials consulted. The PC price must not be presented as the console price.
  • PS5 pre-orders and early access: the announcement confirms wishlisting but gives no date for purchases or early access.
  • PS5 technical performance: no official resolution or frames-per-second targets are supplied in the documents consulted.

The studio also lists Xbox Series X|S as a future platform, but that does not establish a release date for PS5. A PC launch, the availability of a wishlist and an actual console launch are distinct milestones.

How to check its status without confusing an announcement with a launch

Anyone interested in the PS5 version can already use the wishlist option on the game's store page. To verify any future release date, check the PlayStation Store listing and official Feel Free Games announcements. Until a date appears through those channels, the accurate status is: PS5 version announced, release date to be determined.
