How the September 20 land and river procession was planned
The key to understanding the route is the sequence published by the Archdiocese. At 3:00 p.m., the land procession was to leave the parish church carrying the Sacred Image and head toward Orla Pôr do Sol. After reaching the waterfront, the river stage would take place on the Vaza-Barris River. At the end of the river route, the image would return to the parish church.
The Aracaju city government identifies Orla Pôr do Sol as a waterfront area in Mosqueiro on the banks of the Vaza-Barris River. This clarifies the route logic: the religious walk would end at the connection point with the river, where the river procession would begin.
For participants following the program, the event immediately before departure was the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 2:30 p.m. The image had to return to the parish church before the Solemn Closing Mass scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
What the official announcement did not specify
The notice reviewed did not provide a street-by-street route for the land procession, estimated duration for each segment, public boarding rules, number of boats, capacity, boat access points or any registration requirement. It also did not announce a special traffic, parking or public transport plan.
It is therefore not safe to assume that all worshippers could board vessels for the river procession. What is confirmed is that the image would travel by land to Orla Pôr do Sol, take part in a procession on the Vaza-Barris River and return to the parish church.
How to avoid confusing the 2025 schedule with a 2026 agenda
- Check the year in the official source before planning any trip.
- Note that the Archdiocese explicitly states the period from September 13 to 20, 2025.
- September 20 is identified as a Saturday in the published program, consistent with the 2025 calendar.
- For any future edition, look for a new notice from the Archdiocese or the parish with updated dates, times and instructions.
