The Archdiocese of Aracaju has confirmed four installation ceremonies for September 2026, all in the capital of Sergipe. The official schedule, published on August 25 and signed by Archbishop Josafá Menezes da Silva, includes three new pastors and one parochial administrator. The ceremonies mark the official start of their new pastoral assignments, but the notice does not announce changes to Mass schedules, ministries, parish teams, or services.

What changes in each community

Centro: Catedral Nossa Senhora da Conceição

On September 14, Fr. Antônio da Cunha Santos will be installed as pastor of Catedral Nossa Senhora da Conceição. For the Cathedral community, the confirmed change is the arrival of a new pastor responsible for the parish's pastoral care.

Conjunto Leite Neto: Nossa Senhora do Santíssimo Sacramento

On September 18, Fr. Anderson Gomes da Silva will be installed as pastor of Paróquia Nossa Senhora do Santíssimo Sacramento. The official notice confirms the new pastoral assignment without detailing changes to programming or internal organization.

18 do Forte: Paróquia São Pio X

On September 25, Fr. Williams Oliveira Lima will take office as pastor of Paróquia São Pio X. The installation formally marks the start of his pastoral service leading the community.

Coroa do Meio: Paróquia São Lucas

On September 28, Fr. Wellington José da Silva will take office as parochial administrator of Paróquia São Lucas. This role differs from the other three ceremonies: the notice identifies him as parochial administrator, not as pastor.

Pastor and parochial administrator are not the same title

The Code of Canon Law defines the pastor in canon 519 as the proper pastor of the parish entrusted to him. Canons 539 and 540 address the parochial administrator: a priest designated to take the pastor's place when a parish is vacant or the pastor is prevented from exercising his pastoral function, generally with the same duties and rights unless the diocesan bishop establishes otherwise.

This explains the terminology used by the Archdiocese, but it does not establish why Paróquia São Lucas will receive a parochial administrator in this specific case. The August 25 notice does not state the concrete canonical reason or announce a later appointment of a pastor for the community.

What the notice confirms — and what it does not

The official Archdiocese of Aracaju notice confirms the names, roles, parishes, neighborhoods, dates, and times of all four installations. It also says the ceremonies are part of a transfer process previously communicated by the Archdiocese and invites the faithful of the respective communities to attend.

The notice does not describe changes to service times, parish offices, ministries, projects, or teams. Any operational change beyond the new pastoral leadership should therefore be checked directly with each parish or in later Archdiocesan announcements.
