Power Rangers Dino Charge follows a team built around the Energems, ten immensely powerful crystals connected to dinosaur spirits. The story begins millions of years before the Rangers are formed and ends by changing Earth’s history itself. The complete arc spans Dino Charge and Dino Super Charge, combining the search for the Energems with the mystery of Tyler’s missing father, the arrival of new Rangers, and the conflict against Sledge, Heckyl, Snide, and Lord Arcanon.
How it begins: Keeper, Sledge, and the ten Energems
About 65 million years ago, Keeper, guardian of the Energems, reaches Earth while being pursued by Sledge, an intergalactic bounty hunter who wants all ten crystals so he can conquer the universe. To keep them out of Sledge’s hands, Keeper entrusts each Energem to a dinosaur.
Keeper manages to sabotage Sledge’s ship and send it into deep space. The plan protects the Energems, but it has an unintended consequence: the asteroids Sledge had been towing fall toward Earth and cause the extinction of the dinosaurs. The Energems remain lost on the planet for millions of years.
In the present, Keeper works with scientist and paleontologist Kendall Morgan. They operate from a secret base beneath the Amber Beach Dinosaur Museum and search for the Energems before Sledge can return to Earth.
The original team is formed
When the main story begins, five Energems have already found people worthy of bonding with them. These first bearers form the core Dino Charge team:
- Tyler Navarro, Red Ranger: an adventurer searching for his father, who vanished ten years earlier. The search for James Navarro becomes one of the series’ main emotional threads.
- Shelby Watkins, Pink Ranger: a museum employee and dinosaur enthusiast whose initiative puts her in the path of the Pink Energem and the team.
- Koda, Blue Ranger: a caveman who found the Blue Energem roughly 100,000 years earlier. His bond with it preserved his life until he reached the present day.
- Riley Griffin, Green Ranger: a disciplined young swordsman from a farming family.
- Chase Randall, Black Ranger: a confident, laid-back New Zealander who is already working at the museum when Tyler, Shelby, and Riley join the group.
Using technology developed by Kendall, Dino Chargers, weapons, and dinosaur-linked Zords, the five fight Sledge and his crew. Their main enemies include Fury, Wrench, Poisandra, Curio, and the many criminals held aboard Sledge’s ship and sent to attack Earth.
The Energem hunt expands the team
As the Rangers defend Amber Beach, they discover that some Energems have been bonded to other people for centuries. One major discovery is Sir Ivan of Zandar, an approximately 800-year-old knight bonded to the Gold Energem. Ivan had been trapped inside Fury for centuries; once freed, he becomes the Gold Ranger.
Prince Phillip III of Zandar becomes the Graphite Ranger after proving his character and bonding with the Graphite Energem. The story also introduces the Purple Energem, which briefly bonds with Albert Smith. When Albert gives up the role because he does not believe he can face the monsters, the team needs a new bearer.
Kendall spends most of the first season as the team’s scientist, strategist, and base commander, but that changes during the final confrontation with Sledge. After risking her life to rescue Keeper and recover the Purple Energem aboard the enemy ship, she is chosen by the crystal and becomes the Purple Ranger.
Tyler’s father and the first decisive battle with Sledge
From the beginning, Tyler connects Fury to his father’s disappearance because he finds references to the monster in James’s notes. His determination to learn the truth sometimes conflicts with teamwork, but it also drives much of the hunt for the remaining Energems.
At the end of Dino Charge, Sledge obtains the Purple Energem, later takes Tyler’s Red Energem, and captures Keeper. Kendall infiltrates the ship, recovers the Purple Energem, and rescues Keeper, becoming a Ranger in the process. While Shelby, Kendall, and Keeper escape, Tyler stays aboard to reclaim his own Energem and prevent Sledge from using its power against the Zords.
Tyler succeeds, and the battle ends with Sledge’s ship crashing on Earth. Sledge is presumed defeated, and the team believes it can separate while Keeper continues searching for the two Energems still missing: Aqua and Silver. However, Heckyl and his monstrous counterpart Snide survive and become the next threat.
Dino Super Charge: Heckyl, Snide, and the Aqua Ranger
Dino Super Charge brings the Rangers back together against Heckyl and Snide. Heckyl appears human and attempts to get close to the team, while Snide represents his violent monstrous side. The season gradually reveals that Heckyl’s history is more complicated than that of a conventional villain.
Tyler’s central personal mystery is also resolved. The mysterious Aqua Ranger is revealed to be James Navarro, his father. Ten years earlier, James had been exploring caves with his friend Rusty when a collapse trapped him. He found the Aqua Energem and bonded with it. Fury began hunting him, so James chose to remain hidden rather than place Tyler in danger. The Energem’s power also explains why he barely aged during the decade he was missing.
The reunion completes the search that had motivated Tyler from the start. James joins the fight as the Aqua Ranger and later uses his geological expertise to help locate the final missing Energem.
Zenowing, the Silver Ranger, and Heckyl’s origin
The Silver Energem is connected to Zenowing, Keeper’s former apprentice and the creator of the Dino Charge Zords. In the past, Zenowing tried to stop Lord Arcanon, a conqueror seeking the Dark Energem. Arcanon used that crystal to corrupt him and create Doomwing, an evil counterpart that took control of his body.
The Rangers eventually separate Zenowing from Doomwing. After reclaiming the Silver Energem and defeating his dark half, Zenowing becomes the tenth Ranger in the team’s main lineup. The group can now bring together all ten Energem powers, even though the Purple Energem had two different bearers during the story.
The same dark power that divided Zenowing is also tied to Heckyl’s past. Heckyl was a resident of the planet Sentai 6 and tried to stop Lord Arcanon from taking the Dark Energem. Contact with it corrupted him, created Snide, and erased his memories. When Heckyl finally remembers that Arcanon destroyed his homeworld, he begins to turn against the forces responsible for what happened to him.
Lord Arcanon, Sledge’s return, and an unlikely alliance
Lord Arcanon arrives on Earth and is revealed as the hidden master behind part of the conflict. Singe had secretly been working for him, and Sledge himself had originally been hired by Arcanon to collect powerful criminals. The villains’ balance of power shifts again when Sledge returns, takes back control of his crew, and destroys Arcanon with the Dark Energem.
Heckyl and Snide are eventually split into separate physical beings. Snide remains with Sledge, while Heckyl fully recovers his identity and decides to help the Rangers. That change becomes crucial in the final stretch: a character who spent much of the season as an enemy becomes essential to preventing the Dark Energem from destroying the planet.
The ending: the Dark Energem, time travel, and a rewritten Earth
In the decisive battle, the Rangers defeat Snide and must stop Sledge’s plan to pull Earth away from the Sun. The Dark Energem can only be destroyed by intense sunlight, so the heroes combine the efforts of Amber Beach’s citizens, their Zords, and reflected sunlight to destroy it.
The crystal’s destruction releases an enormous amount of energy and creates a black hole. To save Earth, the Rangers discover that the united Energems can open a path through time. The team travels back 65 million years, arriving at the exact moment Keeper first reached the planet.
This time, the Rangers interfere with the original events. They battle Sledge and Fury in the past, prevent the same disaster from happening, and send Sledge’s ship on a course toward the Sun. Sledge, Poisandra, and Wrench are defeated in the process, and the chain of events that originally caused the asteroid impact is broken.
The victory changes the timeline. Koda is able to return to his own era, Ivan goes back to the period he came from, and Heckyl leaves with Zenowing to protect Sentai 6. Keeper gives Heckyl responsibility for guarding the Dark Energem, giving the former enemy a new purpose.
When Tyler, Shelby, Chase, Riley, Kendall, James, and Phillip return to the present, they find a different world: because Sledge’s asteroids never caused the extinction, dinosaurs survived, and the former Amber Beach museum is now a dinosaur zoo. That is the major consequence of the Dino Super Charge ending and proof that the team did more than save Earth—they rewrote its history.
The Christmas epilogue
The main narrative ends in End of Extinction, but the Christmas special Here Comes Heximas, which aired afterward, serves as an epilogue. Heximas, a criminal who escaped the destruction of Sledge’s ship, tries to control people through cursed gifts. Keeper reunites part of the team, Koda and Ivan temporarily return to the present, and the Rangers defeat the last threat connected to Sledge’s crew.
What defines the Dino Charge story
The saga begins as a race to find ten crystals and ends as a story about belonging, memory, and choice. Tyler finds his father; Koda and Ivan regain the chance to return to their own times; Kendall moves from being only the team’s scientific mind to fighting on the front line; Zenowing regains his identity; and Heckyl turns guilt and loss into a new responsibility.
Together, Dino Charge and Dino Super Charge form one continuous narrative. The two seasons contain 40 regular episodes plus Halloween and Christmas specials, commonly listed as 44 episodes in total.
