Power Rangers S.P.D.: the complete B-Squad story through the final battle

Follow the complete Power Rangers S.P.D. story, from B-Squad's formation and the Jack-Sky rivalry to the Shadow Ranger, Omega Ranger, A-Squad's betrayal, and Gruumm's defeat.

Cinco heróis uniformizados em vermelho, azul, amarelo, rosa e verde posam diante de uma base policial futurista, com naves de patrulha no céu e um grande cão robótico ao fundo.

Power Rangers S.P.D. follows the formation and growth of Space Patrol Delta's B-Squad on a futuristic Earth where humans and aliens live side by side. Set in 2025, the season turns a team initially defined by rivalry, insecurity, and very different backgrounds into a unit capable of facing Emperor Gruumm's Troobian Empire. The summary below contains spoilers for the entire story, including the ending.

The starting point: Earth in 2025 and Gruumm's threat

By 2025, Earth has become home to many alien species, and S.P.D. operates as an interplanetary law-enforcement organization. When A-Squad, then considered the organization's premier Ranger team, disappears during a mission against the Troobian Empire, the planet's defense falls to B-Squad.

Cadets Sky Tate, Bridge Carson, and Sydney “Syd” Drew are already training at the academy when they receive Delta Morphers. At the same time, Jack Landors and Elizabeth “Z” Delgado are living outside the law and cross paths with S.P.D. After being captured, they are offered a place on the team by Commander Anubis “Doggie” Cruger. Jack becomes the Red Ranger and leader; Z becomes the Yellow Ranger; Sky, who expected to wear red, becomes the Blue Ranger; Bridge is the Green Ranger; and Syd is the Pink Ranger.

B-Squad begins with internal conflict

Jack's selection as Red Ranger immediately creates tension with Sky. Sky grew up admiring his father, who had also been a Red Ranger, and believes discipline and training should naturally place him in command. Jack, by contrast, begins with no military background and briefly abuses the privileges of leadership. Cruger removes him from command until Jack understands that leadership means responsibility, trust, and putting the team above his own ego.

The Jack-Sky rivalry is one of the season's central threads. Over the course of their missions, the two move from reluctant competitors to partners capable of trusting each other in critical situations. Bridge, Z, and Syd also receive stories built around their flaws, choices, and growth, making B-Squad feel less like a finished team and more like a group that has to earn its identity.

Genetic powers and S.P.D.'s past

In addition to their Morphers, the five core Rangers have individual genetic abilities. The story explains that these powers are connected to their parents' work with S.P.D. and exposure that affected the next generation. That idea ties the heroes' origins directly to the organization and also connects Z to a boy named Sam.

Sam is a child with teleportation powers who, because he feels isolated, is manipulated by Mora, one of Gruumm's agents. Z gains his trust and helps him choose another path. After the conflict, Sam is welcomed into the S.P.D. Academy, setting up one of the most important returns in the second half of the season.

Doggie Cruger becomes more than a commander: the Shadow Ranger

Commander Cruger has a deeply personal history with Gruumm. His home planet, Sirius, was devastated by Troobian forces, and Cruger believes he lost his wife, Isinia. When General Benaag returns to confront him and Kat Manx is taken hostage, Cruger finally uses the Patrol Morpher Kat built for him and becomes the Shadow Ranger.

Cruger's entry into active combat changes the balance of the team. He remains mentor and commander, but now fights directly when the situation requires it. His history with Gruumm also makes clear that the war on Earth is not the beginning of the conflict; it is the continuation of the disaster that destroyed Cruger's world and a trauma he still has to resolve.

Gruumm, Mora, Morgana, and Broodwing widen the war

Emperor Gruumm is the main force behind the invasion, but the season keeps several parallel threats in play. Mora creates monsters for the emperor and, after repeated failures, is transformed into her adult form, Morgana. Broodwing acts as an arms dealer and opportunist: he sells to different criminals, cooperates with Gruumm when it benefits him, and gradually develops ambitions of his own.

This structure means B-Squad faces more than a single centralized army. It must deal with criminals, mercenaries, and competing agendas. Piggy, an informant who moves between several sides, embodies that gray area: he helps S.P.D. on some occasions, works with its enemies on others, and becomes crucial when the story reaches its endgame.

Sam returns from the future as the Omega Ranger

The conflict changes scale when S.P.D. receives a message from the year 2040 warning that Gruumm's forces will win. As B-Squad approaches defeat, the Omega Ranger appears with technology far beyond anything used in 2025. He initially behaves arrogantly and considers the current Rangers technologically inferior, but he eventually fights beside them.

The Omega Ranger reveals that he is Sam, now arriving from the future. The child Z helped earlier in the season has grown into an S.P.D. Ranger. The reveal turns what first seemed like a self-contained storyline into part of the main plot and reinforces the idea that the team's choices in the present directly shape the future.

Sky confronts his father's legacy

Sky's desire to become Red Ranger is not simple ambition. He connects the red uniform to his father and to the legacy of a Ranger who died in service. That conflict becomes especially important when the criminal Mirloc exploits Sky's most painful memory. Rather than dismiss his teammate's obsession, Jack temporarily gives Sky the Red Morpher so he can confront Mirloc as the Red Ranger and honor his father.

The moment does not make Sky the permanent leader yet, but it marks a turning point. He begins to understand that being Red Ranger is not an automatic reward for discipline, heritage, or desire. Leadership has to be earned through maturity, trust, and the ability to follow someone else when necessary.

S.W.A.T. training turns B-Squad into an elite unit

Even after many victories, the Rangers go through a period of infighting and poor performance. Cruger sends B-Squad to planet Zentor to train under Sergeant Silverback. The program is harsh, and the team temporarily loses Ranger status because the five members cannot function as a unit.

Once they stop acting like competing individuals and learn to coordinate, they earn S.W.A.T. Mode. Later they receive S.W.A.T. Flyers that combine into the S.W.A.T. Megazord. The upgrade works as a story milestone: the stronger technology arrives only after the Rangers prove they have become a stronger team.

Meeting the Dino Thunder Rangers

The season includes crossovers with Power Rangers Dino Thunder. In “History,” Conner, Ethan, and Kira are transported to 2025 and fight alongside B-Squad. In “Wormhole,” Gruumm travels into the past and S.P.D. follows him, creating another meeting between the teams.

The broadcast placement of “Wormhole” can be confusing because the episode aired outside narrative order in some markets. For understanding S.P.D.'s ending, the important point is that the serialized story concludes in “Endings, Part 2”; “Wormhole” is a time-travel crossover adventure rather than an epilogue set after Gruumm's final defeat.

The truth about A-Squad and the road to the finale

Near the end, Cruger learns a decisive clue: Isinia may still be alive. At the same time, B-Squad finds the missing A-Squad. What appears to be a rescue turns into betrayal. A-Squad has allied itself with Gruumm and captures Cruger, proving that the label of “top team” never guaranteed moral superiority.

B-Squad fights its former superiors and, using everything it has learned—including S.W.A.T. Mode—defeats them. Meanwhile, Broodwing tries to exploit the chaos and seize Delta Base. The Rangers defeat Broodwing as well, but the larger war remains unresolved: Gruumm and the entity known as Omni the Magnificence form the final threat.

How Power Rangers S.P.D. ends

During the final confrontation, Piggy betrays the Rangers under pressure and helps Gruumm capture them, but later regrets his actions and frees them. Cruger remains aboard the enemy ship to search for Isinia while B-Squad returns to Earth. He finds his wife alive, confronts Mora and Gruumm, and tries to stop Omni's plan from being completed.

Omni takes on a gigantic biomechanical form and attacks Earth. The S.W.A.T. Megazord cannot defeat it through brute force, so Kat identifies a vulnerable point. Cruger and Isinia help expose that weakness from inside, allowing the Rangers to strike the core and destroy Omni. Both survive the explosion.

Gruumm survives as well and demands one last confrontation. Cruger defeats him personally and places him in containment, ending the rivalry that began on Sirius. At the same time, Earth's defense brings together not only B-Squad, but cadets, Kat, Boom, Piggy, Sam, S.P.D. reinforcements, and the Nova Ranger from the future.

What happens to the team after the victory

After Gruumm's defeat, Cruger offers B-Squad a promotion to replace A-Squad. The team chooses to remain known as B-Squad, turning a label that once implied “second best” into a symbol of what they achieved together.

Jack decides to leave S.P.D. and pursue a life focused on helping people outside the organization alongside Ally. With the leadership position open, Cruger tests Sky again by asking whether he would accept following someone else as Red Ranger. This time, Sky says he would follow whoever Cruger believed was right for the role. The answer proves how much he has matured, and Cruger promotes him to Red Ranger. Bridge moves from Green to Blue Ranger.

Sam and the Nova Ranger return to the future, while Z says goodbye knowing their paths remain connected. In the team's final note, Jack visits his former teammates, but B-Squad is soon called to another mission. Sky takes command and the Rangers head out once again to protect the city.

The central arc of S.P.D. in one sentence

The story of Power Rangers S.P.D. is the transformation of a replacement team—made up of imperfect cadets and two unlikely recruits—into a group that surpasses the squad that was supposed to be superior, defeats Gruumm, and redefines what it means to deserve the S.P.D. badge.
