High school certification through Enem 2026: minimum scores, partial proficiency statement and how to request the certificate

Learn who can use Enem 2026 to complete high school, which minimum scores are required, when a partial proficiency statement applies and what to do after results are released.

High school certification through Enem 2026 depends on three central points: minimum age, minimum scores and the issuance route that corresponds to the participant's situation. The general rule requires the participant to be at least 18 years old on the date of the first test in that edition, to score 450 points or more in each of the four knowledge areas and at least 500 points on the essay. Those who do not meet all of these cutoffs may, in certain areas, be entitled to a partial proficiency statement.

The 2026 regulations also require attention to an important practical difference. The option selected during registration affects the route for receiving the document, but the Enem 2026 Public Notice itself provides a route for people who did not select certification and nevertheless meet the requirements. Therefore, before concluding that the opportunity to certify was lost, it is necessary to check the scores and identify which procedure applies.

Who is eligible for full certification through Enem 2026

Inep Ordinance No. 7, of January 13, 2026, as amended by Ordinance No. 15, of January 16, 2026, establishes the basic requirements for using an Enem result to complete high school. The participant must be at least 18 years old on the date of the first test in that edition, score at least 450 points in each knowledge area and obtain at least 500 points on the essay.

For Enem 2026, the regular administration is scheduled for November 8 and 15. Therefore, for the regular administration, the age requirement is assessed on the first test date, November 8, 2026. Turning 18 only after that date does not meet the cutoff established for this edition.

The four objective-test areas are Languages, Codes and their Technologies; Human Sciences and their Technologies; Natural Sciences and their Technologies; and Mathematics and its Technologies. For the full certificate, every area must have a score of 450 points or more. The essay has a separate cutoff of 500 points.

This means there is no compensation through an average score. A high Mathematics score, for example, does not offset a score below 450 in Natural Sciences. Likewise, an essay score well above 500 does not replace the minimum performance required in one of the

objective-test areas.

How to interpret the result for the full certificate

If all four areas have scores of 450 points or more and the essay has a score of 500 points or more, the performance requirement for the full certificate has been met. It is still necessary to meet the minimum-age requirement and follow the issuance route indicated for your case.

If even one area is below 450, the score set does not meet the requirement for a high school completion certificate. In that situation, however, the areas in which the participant reached the cutoff may qualify for a partial proficiency statement, under the specific rules.

How the partial proficiency statement works

The partial proficiency statement is used to officially record that the participant reached the minimum standard in certain areas even without meeting all the requirements for the full certificate. By itself, it is not equivalent to a high school completion certificate.

For Human Sciences, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the cutoff stated in the Enem 2026 Public Notice is 450 points in each area considered separately. Thus, someone who scores 450 in Human Sciences but falls below the cutoff in Mathematics may request the statement for the area in which the requirement was met.

Languages has an additional condition. To obtain the partial statement for this area, the participant must score at least 450 points on the Languages objective test and at least 500 points on the essay. Therefore, an essay score below 500 prevents issuance of a partial proficiency statement for Languages even if the objective score for that area is 450 or higher.

The rules also assign the issuance of partial statements to the certifying institutions and allow them to publish additional procedures for receiving requests and delivering the document. For this reason, required documents, service channels and processing times may vary depending on the institution selected.

I selected certification during registration: what happens next

Enem 2026 Public Notice No. 64 provides a specific route for a participant who indicated during registration an intention to use the scores for certification and later reaches all the minimum scores for the full certificate. In that case, the certificate will be issued by the Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de São Paulo, IFSP, and made available in the Enem Digital Certification environment on a date to be announced by Inep.

This does not mean that Inep is the institution that issues the certificate. The public notice itself clarifies that issuance is not Inep's responsibility. In the digital route established for participants who selected the option and reached all the cutoffs, issuance is assigned to IFSP, while the platform is provided within Inep's ecosystem.

Because the 2026 digital certificate release date still depends on an official announcement, it is not safe to promise that the document will be available on the same day as the results. The correct procedure is to check the individual result and follow the official announcement for the certification environment's availability.

I did not select certification during registration: can I still request it?

Yes. The Enem 2026 Public Notice expressly provides a route for participants who did not select certification in the registration system. Item 16.4.1 states that a participant who did not make this selection but meets the requirements established by Ordinance No. 7, as amended by Ordinance No. 15, should contact one of the certifying institutions published by Inep to request either the high school completion certificate or a partial proficiency statement.

This point is important because Ordinance No. 15 replaced the wording of the article that lists the basic requirements and removed from it the obligation to have selected certification during registration. In practice, for 2026, failing to select the option should not automatically be treated as a permanent loss of the possibility of certification. The route changes from the digital flow established for participants who selected the option to direct contact with a certifying institution.

The selected institution may establish additional procedures. Therefore, after the results are released, check the certifying institution's official page before sending documents or traveling to a unit. Inep provides the list of participating institutions, but each one may define how it will receive and process the request.

How to request the certificate after the results are released

The first step is to check the individual result on the Enem Participant Page. Inep states that individual results are made available in this environment through the single sign-on account. For 2026, the date for release of the final results has not yet been announced.

After opening the score report, check the four objective-test areas and the essay separately. If every area has at least 450 points and the essay has at least 500 points, also verify the age requirement. If all requirements are met, the next step depends on what was recorded during registration.

If you selected the certification option and reached the cutoffs for the full certificate, follow the release of Enem Digital Certification. The public notice assigns issuance to IFSP and states that the document will be made available at the digital certification address on a date to be announced by Inep.

If you did not select the certification option, contact one of the certifying institutions officially listed by Inep and follow the procedure it publishes. This is also the route indicated for requesting a partial proficiency statement.

The list published by Inep on June 11, 2026, includes state education departments in Acre, Alagoas, Ceará, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Santa Catarina and Sergipe, as well as IFSP. Because agreements may be updated, the official list should be checked again when the request is made.

If the result allows only a partial proficiency statement

A participant who reached the cutoff in only some areas should not request the full certificate as though all requirements had been met. The correct request is the partial proficiency statement corresponding to the approved areas, while observing the special rule for Languages, which also requires an essay score of 500 points or more.

A partial proficiency statement issued by a certifying institution is valid nationwide under Ordinance No. 7. If you intend to use this document in a later certification process, confirm with the responsible institution how it will be credited, because the certifying institutions define their additional procedures.

Examples to avoid misreading the scores

Four areas at 450 or above and an essay at 500 or above

This is the performance scenario required for the full certificate. If the minimum-age requirement is also met, the participant should follow the route corresponding to the option selected during registration: digital certification when applicable, or a certifying institution when a direct request is required.

Three areas at 450 or above, one area below, and an essay above 500

The scores are not sufficient for the full certificate because each of the four areas must reach the minimum. The approved areas may qualify for a partial proficiency statement, provided the rules for each area are met.

Languages at 450 or above and an essay below 500

This result does not meet the requirement for a partial proficiency statement in Languages. The Enem 2026 rule links this area to the minimum performance of 500 points on the essay.

Essay above 500, but one objective-test area below 450

The passing essay score does not compensate for an objective-test area below the minimum. The full certificate depends on meeting all cutoffs simultaneously.

What Inep does and what is handled by the certifying institution

Inep organizes the exam, releases the results, maintains the list of participating institutions and supplies data and scores for the certification routes established by the rules. Issuance of the high school completion certificate and the partial proficiency statement, however, is not assigned to Inep.

The certifying institutions are responsible for issuing the documents and may define additional procedures for requests, processing and delivery. In the digital route described in the Enem 2026 Public Notice for participants who selected certification and reached all the minimum scores, the issuing institution named is IFSP.

This division of responsibilities helps prevent a common mistake: contacting Inep expecting the agency to issue the certificate directly. To complete the process, the participant should use the Participant Page to check the result and, at the certification stage, follow the official channel indicated by the public notice or by the certifying institution.

What Inep still needs to confirm for 2026

The official schedule states that the regular Enem 2026 tests will be administered on November 8 and 15, but the date for releasing individual results has not yet been announced. The public notice also leaves for a later announcement the date on which the certificate in the digital route will be made available.

Therefore, any page that currently gives a fixed day for the 2026 final results or for release of the digital certificate should be checked against Inep's official updates. The score rule is already defined; the schedule for these later stages may still receive specific information.

What to do when your scores are published

Open the individual score report, confirm the minimum age, check whether each of the four areas reached 450 and whether the essay reached 500. If all cutoffs were met, identify whether you selected certification during registration to determine whether you should wait for the digital route or contact a certifying institution. If only some areas reached the minimums, request the corresponding partial proficiency statement.

Before submitting any request, return to the official list of certifying institutions and Inep's updated guidance. This avoids using a procedure from a previous edition or following instructions from an institution that is not part of the 2026 agreement. After issuance, keep the digital file and the document validation information in a secure place.
