The question “who won more?” seems to ask for a single number, but the Major Classic shows why historical retrospect needs criteria. In the set of official games documented today by oGol, consulted until March 14, 2026, Confiança appears ahead: 34 wins, against 30 for Sergipe, in addition to 42 draws in 106 matches. The detail that reinforces the balance is almost perfect: the same base registers 122 goals for each side.
This 34 to 30 is the answer adopted in this article, but it will not be sold as an “absolute total” of the entire story. oGol itself warns that it only guarantees complete coverage in some national and regional competitions and that it cannot guarantee that all editions of other competitions are fully registered. As the Campeonato Sergipano forms the majority of the classic, this caveat changes everything.
The criteria used to answer who won the most
The main scoreboard considers adult men's football matches in official competitions that appear in the oGol structured database until the last meeting, on March 14, 2026. Friendlies are not added to this total. When a match ends in a draw and a team advances or wins the title on penalties, the game continues to be counted as a draw in retrospect; the penalty shootout is recorded separately as the outcome of the round or final.
The choice does not mean that oGol is a “complete historical truth”. It works here as a reproducible base: any reader can open the confrontation, check the total, filter competitions and scroll through the matches. For recent games and decisions, the check was cross-checked with the Sergipe Football Federation and ge. For old records that do not appear in the structured database, we use historical sources only as evidence that the archive available on the internet is incomplete.
With this method, the central number is clear: 106 documented games, 34 wins for Confiança, 42 draws and 30 wins for Sergipe.
In the Sergipe Championship, the classic is strictly tied
The most interesting fact in retrospect is not Confiança's overall advantage of four wins. That's what happens when you just look at the Sergipe Championship.
In the database consulted, there are 76 games for the state: 23 wins for Confiança, 30 draws and 23 wins for Sergipe. In other words, within the main local competition, no one has an advantage in triumphs.
This also shows where the 34 to 30 of the total comes from. Outside the Sergipe Championship, the same base brings together 30 official matches: 11 wins for Confiança, 12 draws and seven wins for Sergipe. It is this block of national, regional clashes and other official tournaments that creates the Azulina advantage in the adopted cut-off.
In Series C, for example, there are eight games, with four wins for Confiança, three draws and one victory for Sergipe. In the old Brazilian Championship, there are six matches, with three blue wins, two draws and one colorada. In the Copa do Nordeste, there are six games, with one victory for Confiança, three draws and two for Sergipe. In Series B, the three recorded matches ended in a draw.
The retrospective by decade within the documented base
Separating the games by decade helps to see changes in the moment, but requires a warning: the old numbers are very sparse precisely because the coverage of the state is not complete. Therefore, the blocks below describe the sample registered in oGol, not the totality of matches that necessarily took place in each decade.
1960s and 1970s
In the 1960s, the base had four games: two victories for Confiança, a draw and a victory for Sergipe. In the 1970s, five appeared: three Azuline victories, one draw and one Colorado.
These are too small amounts to summarize two entire decades of the rivalry. The value of this excerpt is different: it highlights the documentary hole when compared to historical sources that talk about many more classics from the same period.
1980s and 1990s
In the 1980s, the record includes seven matches, with six draws and one victory for Sergipe. In the 1990s, only two games appeared, both won by Sergipe.
Here the limitation becomes even more visible. An Infonet report published in 2009 records, for example, a Confiança 5-0 Sergipe in the 1997 Campeonato Sergipano. This game does not appear in the set of 106 matches shown today by oGol. It is concrete proof that one should not transform the current sum of the base into a “complete history” of the classic.
2000s
The sample grew significantly in the 2000s: there are 41 documented games. Sergipe has 15 wins, Confiança 13 and there have been 13 draws.
It is a decade in which the balance of the period leans towards Colorado, although the difference is small. It is also where the 2009 state final appears, one of the most important direct decisions in the recent confrontation.
2010s
In the 2010s, the base brings together 30 matches: 12 wins for Confiança, 12 draws and six wins for Sergipe.
This block helps to explain why Confiança manages to turn around the overall score of the team documented even with the previous decade in favor of the rival. The number of draws remains high, but the Azuline advantage in victories is significant.
2020s until March 2026
From the 2020 season until the final on March 14, 2026, 17 games appear: four wins for Confiança, nine draws and four wins for Sergipe.
It is the clearest portrait of the current balance. Even with Sergipe winning two of the three 2026 classics, including the game that decided the state title, the period remains exactly the same in terms of victories.
The ten-year cut also shows balance
In January 2026, before the three classics of that season, ge had 25 clashes since 2016: nine wins for Confiança, 12 draws and four wins for Sergipe. Then came Sergipe 1-0 Confiança on January 31st, Confiança 1-1 Sergipe on March 7th and Sergipe 1-0 Confiança on March 14th.
With these three results, the 2016 cut-off to March 14, 2026 reaches 28 games: nine wins for Confiança, 13 draws and six wins for Sergipe. The Azuline advantage exists, but a draw is the most frequent outcome.
Three recent endings that help you understand the classic
Not every Sergipe Championship was decided by a round-trip final. Regulations with quadrangular, hexagonal and other formulas make it dangerous to count every decisive match as if it were a “final” in the same sense. Therefore, it is worth highlighting well-documented and comparable direct decisions.
2009: Confiança becomes the decision
In the 2009 final, Sergipe won the first leg 2-1 on May 3. Three days later, Confiança won the comeback 2-0 and took the title. ge recovered these two scores when reviewing championship finals.
For the review of matches, each game counts for itself: a victory for each side. In the history of the decision, the champion was Confiança.
2024: two draws and Azulino title on penalties
In 2024, the match ended Sergipe 1 to 1 Confiança. In the return, 0 to 0. The cup was decided on penalties, with Confiança winning 5 to 4.
This case is important to understand the method. Confiança won the title, but did not win either of the two games in regulation time. Therefore, the two enter as draws in H2H. Adding the penalty shootout as a “victory” would alter the record in a way that is incompatible with the rule adopted by the main base itself.
2026: draw in the first leg and Sergipe title in the return
The Sergipe Football Federation registers 1-1 in the first game of the 2026 final, on March 7. On the way back, on March 14, Sergipe won 1-0 and won the state championship.
Here there is no conflict between the result of the match and the result of the decision: the second game was a Colorado victory in normal time and is counted as such in retrospect.
The goals show why the cut needs to be written
A historical survey published by Infonet in 2009, with a focus announced “since 1968”, pointed to Confiança 5 to 0 Sergipe on November 16, 1997, for the Campeonato Sergipano, as the biggest defeat of the duel in that survey.
There is, however, an even older record. In a historical article about Confiança, ge reports that the first classic played at Sabino Ribeiro, in 1955, ended 6-1 for the Azulino team. This game is outside the “since 1968” section used by Infonet and does not appear in the current set of 106 oGol matches.
As the report on 1955 does not identify, in the section consulted, which competition hosted that 6-1, we did not automatically incorporate it into the main scoreboard of official games. It is presented as a separate historical record. The 5-0 in 1997 is explicitly identified as a match from the Campeonato Sergipano and, precisely because it is not in oGol's current record, reinforces caution with absolute totals.
On the Sergipe side, the structured database consulted records a 4-1 victory over Confiança in the 2007 Sergipe Championship. Without a complete reconstruction of the old files, it would be imprudent to call it the biggest Colorado rout in history. It is safer to treat it as one of the largest scores in Sergipe within the structured set audited here.
Why do some pages say that Sergipe won more
The strongest divergence appears in an Infonet report from April 2009. Citing the website “Clássicos do Futebol Brasileiro”, the text reported 149 clashes since 1968, with 57 draws, 49 victories for Sergipe and 43 for Confiança.
This number is impossible to reconcile directly with the 106 games, 34 wins for Confiança, 42 draws and 30 wins for Sergipe today shown by oGol. And it should not be “corrected” by adding or subtracting blind matches.
The two counts use different collections. One can incorporate games that the other has not registered; there may be differences in classification between friendly and official matches; old matches may be missing; results decided by penalties can be treated differently; and even the time interval changes from one page to another.
oGol itself helps to resolve the apparent paradox by declaring that it only guarantees full monitoring of Brasileirão, Série B, Série C, Copa do Nordeste and Seletiva da Série B in the context of this page. For other editions, including the Campeonato Sergipano, the base says it cannot guarantee that those will be the only games played.
Therefore, finding a page with a Sergipe advantage and another with a Confiança advantage does not alone prove that one is wrong. Before comparing, we need to ask: which games are included, since when, which competitions are accepted and how are penalties and incomplete records handled?
So, after all, who won more?
With the reproducible criteria adopted in this article, Confiança won more: 34 to 30, with 42 draws in 106 official games documented at the main base until March 14, 2026.
But there are two important caveats. The first is that, in the Sergipe Championship alone, the score is tied at 23 victories for each side. The second is that the total of 106 does not represent a complete reconstruction of the entire history of the Major Classic, because the base itself admits gaps in the old state competitions.
The most accurate answer, therefore, is not “Confiança won more forever and on any basis”. It is: in the official set currently documented and audited by this article, Confiança leads; in broader historical surveys, there are different numbers and even an advantage for Sergipe. Without a unified bank of past scores and results, criteria need to keep up with the scoreboard.
