São Paulo October craft fairs: who can apply and how to choose a venue

A guide to eligibility, dates, hours and slots for São Paulo's October 2026 craft fairs, with practical criteria for choosing among the 18 main venues and a note on two extra opportunities listed by the City.

Applications for São Paulo City Hall's October 2026 craft fairs are open until September 16. The call is aimed at artisans and craft makers who are already registered with the Mãos e Mentes Paulistanas program, and participation is free. The official announcement says there are 18 locations across the city and provides dates, hours and available slots for each venue.

Before choosing where to apply, separate two questions: do you meet the requirements? and which venue realistically fits your schedule and production needs? The number of slots helps show the scale of each operation, but the City does not publish, in this announcement, a priority ranking or selection formula that would justify assuming a venue with more slots is automatically “easier” to enter.

Who can apply

According to the official call from São Paulo's Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development and Labor, applicants must:

  • be registered with the Mãos e Mentes Paulistanas program;
  • sell items handmade by the exhibitor;
  • be available for the full schedule of the selected period;
  • be certified in one of the fifteen course groups mentioned by the City or have completed, by August 31, the courses Coleção Organizada: Do Planejamento à Produção and Modelagem de Negócio.

People who are not yet part of the program should note an important distinction: the Mãos e Mentes Paulistanas program page lists general registration requirements such as being over 16, living in or having a studio in the city of São Paulo, and producing handmade goods. Those general requirements do not replace the specific conditions of the October fair call, especially the need to already be registered and to meet the training requirement.

Checklist before applying

  • Confirm that your program registration is active and that you meet the course/certification requirement.
  • Check that the products you plan to sell are handmade by you.
  • Select only periods in which you can fully comply with the published hours.
  • Calculate travel, setup, teardown and stock transportation time — not just customer-facing hours.
  • Read the application form through to the end before submitting. The official news item does not explain tie-break rules, ranking order, result dates or whether choosing several venues changes selection odds.

How to choose among the venues

1. Start with availability, not the address

Some venues require attendance on several consecutive days, while others operate on only one or two dates. If you cannot commit to the full listed period, eliminate that option before comparing audience, neighborhood or slot count.

2. Match the venue type to your products

Squares and parks may require more attention to display logistics and transport. Municipal markets and produce markets have a different flow and, in some cases, longer hours. The announcement does not promise minimum foot traffic or a specific buyer profile, so treat venue type as an operational factor rather than a sales guarantee.

3. Treat slot counts as capacity, not probability

The published list includes venues with 8, 10, 18, 20, 30 or 40 total slots. This indicates planned participation capacity, but it does not show how many people will apply to each venue or how selection will be made. Do not assume 40 slots automatically means better odds without knowing demand.

4. Prioritize the real cost of travel

If you carry fragile, bulky or high-volume products, a closer venue may be economically better than a more distant location with more slots. Include transportation, food, travel time, whether you need help, and the trip home at the end of the day.

The official page says 18 venues but lists two more opportunities

There is a discrepancy worth noting. The City Hall headline and text refer to 18 locations, and the first 18 venues are tied to the same application form. However, at the end of the service section, the page also lists Parque Alto da Boa Vista (October 12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 20 slots) and Câmara de Portas Abertas (October 17, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 20 slots), each with a separate application link.

This suggests that these two opportunities are being handled differently from the main block of 18. Because the announcement does not explain the distinction, the safest approach is to check the official forms and not assume the number “18” covers every option shown on the page.

What the announcement still does not explain

The official publication provides eligibility requirements, the deadline, venues, dates, hours and slot counts, but it does not explain in the news text how selection will work if applications exceed available slots, whether there will be a waiting list, when results will be released or whether there is a limit on the number of venues per applicant. Those rules may appear inside the form or in later communications. Save your submission confirmation and monitor the program's official channels.

Practical summary

If you are already registered with Mãos e Mentes Paulistanas and meet the training requirement, your choice should combine dates you can actually attend, travel logistics, venue type and published capacity. Apply by September 16, 2026 and use the official page as the final reference for application links and any updates.
