Anyone relying on buses through downtown Aracaju on Monday, September 7, 2026, should plan for a special traffic operation between 5:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The Municipal Transport and Traffic Authority (SMTT) said Avenida Barão de Maruim will be closed for the Independence Day civic parade and that part of Avenida Ivo do Prado will also be blocked. In all, 20 bus routes appear on the official list of temporarily changed itineraries.
The changes do not amount to a general suspension of bus service. SMTT says buses will use alternative streets so service can continue in the central area. For people commuting, visiting downtown or simply crossing the area, the key is to identify both the bus route and the direction of travel, because the temporary path varies by direction.
Where the road closures are and when they apply
- Avenida Barão de Maruim: vehicle traffic will be closed for the parade.
- Avenida Ivo do Prado: the blocked section runs between Travessa José de Faro, near the state Legislative Assembly, and Avenida Augusto Maynard.
- Planned time window: 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 7, 2026.
Based on the published detours, some of the main corridors used to bypass the closed area will be Avenida Rio Branco, Avenida Pedro Calazans and Avenida Hermes Fontes, along with downtown streets and squares. That is a synthesis of the routes released by SMTT; the operational reference remains the official SMTT notice published on September 1.

Pay special attention to routes 033 and 200 CIC1: both appear on the list of affected services, but the official notice reviewed does not provide a route-specific temporary itinerary for either one. It would therefore be unsafe to copy the detour of another bus simply because its regular route looks similar.
A text map of the main alternative paths
The detours can be understood as four main movements. This helps explain why a bus may no longer pass your usual stop even though it is still operating through downtown.
- South to North and back on routes 001 and 002: the South/North path uses Hermes Fontes, Pedro Calazans, Propriá, Benjamin Constant and Rio Branco. In the opposite direction, the route uses Rio Branco, Fausto Cardoso, José de Faro, Olímpio Campos, Itaporanga, Pedro Calazans and Hermes Fontes.
- Between the western area and downtown on routes 031, 300-1 and 715: buses reach downtown via Desembargador Maynard, Pedro Calazans, Propriá, Benjamin Constant and Rio Branco; on the return trip, they use Capela, Olímpio Campos, Itaporanga, Pedro Calazans and Desembargador Maynard.
- Routes 003, 004, 007, 008, 051, 701, 702 and 717: in the North/South direction, buses bypass the closure through Rio Branco, Fausto Cardoso, José de Faro, Olímpio Campos, Itaporanga, Pedro Calazans, Hermes Fontes and streets near Augusto Maynard before reaching Beira Mar. South/North service uses Governador Paulo Barreto de Menezes, Augusto Maynard, Gonçalo Rolemberg, Largo Carro Quebrado, Dr. Edezio Vieira de Melo and Hermes Fontes.
- Routes with their own detour: 032-1 enters downtown via Laranjeiras, Capela, Propriá, Benjamin Constant and Rio Branco; 061 uses Capela, Propriá, Benjamin Constant and Rio Branco in the Downtown/North direction; 200 CIC2 and 709 share a long stretch through Rio Branco, Pedro Calazans, Hermes Fontes and inner streets as far as Guilhermino Rezende; and 300-2 runs from Rio Branco to Desembargador Maynard via the Fausto Cardoso–Itaporanga–Pedro Calazans corridor.
How to plan your trip without relying on the usual path
- Find your bus in the table and confirm the direction. The same route number can have a different detour on the outbound and return legs.
- Compare your usual stop with the blocked area. If it is on Barão de Maruim or on the closed section of Ivo do Prado, do not assume service will operate there in the usual way during the special operation.
- Use the alternative streets as a planning reference only. To decide where to board, confirm the valid stop through SMTT channels, because a list of streets in a detour is not, by itself, a list of temporary bus stops.
- Allow extra travel time. Even with service maintained, bypassing the parade area can lengthen the trip and put buses on streets carrying more traffic than usual.
- Check again on September 7. This is a temporary traffic plan tied to a street event, so SMTT is the safest source for any later operational adjustment.
Where to check your route before leaving
The main reference for the parade detours is SMTT Aracaju's September 7, 2026 notice. To review each service's regular itinerary and timetable, SMTT also maintains a bus route and schedule lookup page.
This check is especially important if you use route 033 or 200 CIC1, because their individual detours were not detailed in the September 1 notice, or if you normally board inside the blocked perimeter. That way, the decision about where to wait for the bus is based on an official update rather than an assumed route.
