Since September 9, 2026, Aracaju's public bus system has been operating under a restructuring that changed two different parts of the network: two routes were created, two were reactivated, and six existing routes changed operators. According to the Aracaju SMTT, the package also made it possible to withdraw 22 buses from Viação Modelo.
For passengers, the key is not to mix up the two changes. Routes 091 and 036 are new; routes 403 and 035 returned to service. The six routes 022, 101, 200-2, 601, 614 and 903 continue to use the same route numbers and announced main connections, but their operation was transferred to Boa Vista.
What changed on routes 091, 036, 403 and 035
| Route | What changed | Announced main connection | Operator |
|---|---|---|---|
| 091 | Created | Campus / D.I.A. Terminal via Santa Lúcia | Boa Vista* |
| 036 | Created | Eduardo Gomes / Mercado | Boa Vista* |
| 403 | Reactivated | Santa Maria / D.I.A. Terminal via Etelvino Alves | Boa Vista* |
| 035 | Reactivated | Bus Terminal / Nova Saneamento | Boa Vista* |
*Local coverage of the announcement reports that the buses serving these four routes are operated by Boa Vista. The official SMTT release separately and explicitly names Boa Vista as the new operator of the six transferred routes listed below.
Route 091 strengthens the connection between the Campus area and the D.I.A. Terminal, passing through Santa Lúcia. Route 036 creates a connection between the Eduardo Gomes residential area and the central markets district. Routes 403 and 035 are not newly created services: they were reactivated to restore links between Santa Maria and the D.I.A. Terminal in the first case, and between the Bus Terminal and Nova Saneamento in the second.
Which six routes changed operators
To make the withdrawal of 22 Viação Modelo buses possible, SMTT transferred six routes to Boa Vista. The official announcement lists the following services:
| Route | Announced connection | New operator |
|---|---|---|
| 022 | Barra dos Coqueiros / D.I.A. | Boa Vista |
| 101 | Parque São José / Maracaju | Boa Vista |
| 200-2 | Circular Indústria e Comércio 2 | Boa Vista |
| 601 | Marcos Freire Terminal / Mercado Terminal | Boa Vista |
| 614 | Sanatório / Mercado | Boa Vista |
| 903 | Parque dos Carajás / Marcos Freire Terminal | Boa Vista |
This transfer is an operational change, not the launch of six new routes. The announcement keeps the route numbers and their reference connections. For regular riders, the most visible change is likely to be the company operating the bus, although operational adjustments may occur over time.
How to check the latest route and timetable
Timetables, served stops and detailed route paths can change after an announcement. Instead of reproducing a schedule that may quickly become outdated, the safer option is to use the official SMTT Bus Routes and Timetables page.
- Open the official SMTT lookup page.
- Search by route number, such as 091, 036, 403 or 035.
- Switch between the route and timetable options to check the available path and schedule.
- Check the information again before leaving, especially during the first days after an operational change.
The SMTT page is specifically designed for route, itinerary and timetable queries. Using it reduces the risk of relying on screenshots, old tables or posts that do not reflect later updates.
Why SMTT carried out the restructuring
According to the City of Aracaju, the changes were defined after daily monitoring of operations and mapping the main passenger demands. The stated goals were to expand travel options, improve service quality and optimize passenger service. In practice, the package combined three measures: new connections, the return of previously inactive routes, and redistribution of routes between operators.
What passengers need to remember
- 091 and 036: routes created in the September 9, 2026 package.
- 403 and 035: reactivated routes.
- 022, 101, 200-2, 601, 614 and 903: transferred to Boa Vista.
- Detailed timetable and route path: should be checked through SMTT's official lookup because these operational details can be updated.
So, anyone looking for one of the four new or reactivated routes should search for its number in the SMTT tool. Riders who already used one of the six transferred routes should pay attention to the operator change and continue checking timetables and itineraries through the official channel.
