Since September 9, 2026, Aracaju's public bus system has been operating under a reorganization that combines three different changes: two routes were created, two were reactivated, and other routes moved to the Boa Vista company. For passengers, the key point is not to treat everything as “four new routes.” 091 and 036 are new; 403 and 035 returned to service. The change was announced by the Aracaju SMTT as part of a package that also removed 22 Viação Modelo buses from operation.
What changed on routes 091, 036, 403 and 035
The official announcement provides the main connections and, in two cases, the corridor stated in the route name itself. Timetables, the full street-by-street sequence and stops should be checked through the SMTT's official route and timetable service, because the restructuring announcement does not publish the complete operating schedule.
| Route | Status | Announced connection | Explicit corridor | Operator | What to confirm before traveling |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 091 | New | Campus / D.I.A. Terminal | Via Santa Lúcia | Boa Vista | Departure times, Campus and Santa Lúcia stops, and the boarding or transfer point at D.I.A. |
| 036 | New | Eduardo Gomes / Mercado | The announcement does not specify a particular “via” corridor | Boa Vista | Which terminal or stop in the market district is served, schedules and intermediate stops. |
| 403 | Reactivated | Santa Maria / D.I.A. Terminal | Via Etelvino Alves | Boa Vista | The exact Etelvino Alves segment, Santa Maria stops and D.I.A. transfer times. |
| 035 | Reactivated | Bus Terminal / Nova Saneamento | The announcement uses “Nova Saneamento” in the route name | Boa Vista | Current route, direction of travel, Center/Market connections and updated times. |
Operator confirmation came in an SMTT/Secom PMA note published on September 10 and reproduced by Click Sergipe. It lists 035, 036, 091 and 403 among the routes operated by Boa Vista and states that the operation was formalized through service orders issued by SMTT on September 4.
Which route fits each trip
- 091: the reference for trips between the Campus area and the D.I.A. Terminal via Santa Lúcia.
- 036: connects Eduardo Gomes with the Mercado area, creating a direct alternative between those two areas.
- 403: restores the Santa Maria–D.I.A. connection, with Etelvino Alves highlighted in the official route name.
- 035: returns to serve the connection between the Bus Terminal and Nova Saneamento. Because it is a reactivated route and the announcement does not reproduce the full street-by-street path, confirm the current route before relying on older references.
Which six routes were transferred to Boa Vista
In addition to the four created or reactivated routes, SMTT said on September 9 that six existing routes had their operation transferred to Boa Vista to enable the withdrawal of the 22 Viação Modelo buses. The September 10 note kept those routes in Boa Vista's list.
| Route | Announced connection | Main change |
|---|---|---|
| 022 | Barra dos Coqueiros / D.I.A. | Operated by Boa Vista |
| 101 | Parque São José / Maracaju | Operated by Boa Vista |
| 200-2 | Circular Indústria e Comércio 2 | Operated by Boa Vista |
| 601 | Marcos Freire Terminal / Mercado via Osvaldo Aranha | Operated by Boa Vista |
| 614 | Sanatório / Mercado | Operated by Boa Vista |
| 903 | Parque dos Carajás / Marcos Freire Terminal / D.I.A. | Operated by Boa Vista |
This resolves a possible source of confusion: “six routes moved to Boa Vista” does not mean that only six Boa Vista routes were involved in the reorganization. The September 10 note also lists 035, 036, 091 and 403 as Boa Vista-operated. The six highlighted in the September 9 announcement are specifically the routes whose operation was transferred as part of the withdrawal of Modelo vehicles.
What to confirm before leaving home
During the first days of a reorganization, the route number and main connection are only part of what passengers need. Before boarding, confirm:
- departure time: the restructuring news release does not include a timetable;
- direction and stops: especially for reactivated routes, so you do not rely on maps or screenshots from an earlier operating period;
- terminal or platform: D.I.A., Mercado and other terminals may handle several routes and boarding positions;
- possible diversions: roadworks and traffic interventions can temporarily or permanently change a route;
- operator shown on the bus: the reorganization moved routes to Boa Vista, so the company may differ from the one passengers previously associated with the route.
Route 022 shows why this check matters. On September 2, before the restructuring package, SMTT changed the Barra dos Coqueiros/D.I.A. itinerary because of the closure of a turnaround on Tancredo Neves Avenue, changing streets and three served stops. In other words, even when the route number and endpoints remain the same, the path can change.
How to check routes and times without relying on an outdated table
- Open the SMTT Bus Route and Timetable page.
- Search for the route number: 091, 036, 403, 035 or any transferred route.
- Check itinerary and timetable options separately.
- Compare the travel direction with the stops you intend to use.
- If the information is still being updated, check again close to departure using official SMTT channels.
Reorganization summary
The essentials are: 091 and 036 are new; 403 and 035 were reactivated; all four appear in the September 10 note as Boa Vista-operated. Separately, 022, 101, 200-2, 601, 614 and 903 were transferred to Boa Vista as part of the withdrawal of 22 Modelo buses. Because the announcement does not publish the detailed schedule for the four new or returning routes, the final boarding decision should use SMTT's official route and timetable information on the day of travel.
