Electric buses in Aracaju in 2026: the 24 routes served and how to check yours

The latest official route-by-route list links 24 Aracaju routes to electric-bus service; see the routes, why older lists differ and how to check your trip.

Updated August 31, 2026. The latest official source found that lists the routes one by one is an Aracaju City Hall update dated July 10, 2026. It says the city had reached 30 fully electric buses and divides service into two groups: 12 routes that were already receiving electric vehicles and 12 more added with the new batch. In other words, 24 routes were officially associated with electric-bus service in that update.

A later news release, dated August 19, 2026, confirms that the municipal fleet still included 30 electric buses but does not publish a new route list. The July 10 roster is therefore the best public line-by-line reference available for answering which routes receive electric buses in 2026.

Which Aracaju routes are associated with electric-bus service in 2026?

The table below combines the 12 routes City Hall described as already served with the 12 routes announced in the July expansion. Official route names are kept as published.

Quick answer: how can you tell whether your route is served?

  1. Look for your route number in the table above.
  2. If it is among the 24, there is official confirmation that the route was included in electric-bus service in the July 10, 2026 update.
  3. Before leaving, use the SMTT bus itinerary service or Cittamobi to check the route, timetable and available operational predictions.

Important: appearing on the list does not mean every departure on that route is necessarily operated by an electric bus. The municipal release confirms that the route is served by the electric fleet, but it does not publish a trip-by-trip vehicle assignment or promise a fully electric operation at every time of day. For a specific trip, check the schedule and live operation close to boarding time.

Why do different lists appear online?

Because the operation changed in stages, while 2025 search results remain visible next to 2026 updates. On July 26, 2025, SMTT reported the first 15 electric buses operating on 10 routes: 001, 004, 005, 008, 080, 200-1, 200-2, 310, 400-1 and 701.

Then, on October 31, 2025, City Hall announced that operation had resumed after an interruption and published a different configuration. The text says the vehicles would serve 13 routes, but the list displayed on the same page actually contains 14 route codes: 004, 005, 008, 051, 080, 200-1, 200-2, 310, 409, 400-1, 600-1, 600-2, 702 and 720. That internal inconsistency is another reason to check the enumerated list rather than rely only on the number stated in the paragraph.

On July 10, 2026, City Hall presented the configuration linked to the 30-bus electric fleet: 12 routes already served and 12 new ones. In that 2026 list, for example, 001, 701, 600-1 and 600-2 no longer appear, while 12 other routes are added. By itself, this does not prove when or why each earlier route stopped receiving electric buses; it only shows that the official roster changed over time.

Do the 24 routes use only electric buses?

The consulted public sources do not support that conclusion. The official information is that 30 electric vehicles joined the fleet and that the 24 routes above were associated with service by those buses. A “served route” is not the same as “every trip on the route is electric.” Operations may mix vehicle technologies and can change according to assignments, maintenance and service needs.

This distinction also explains why “30 buses” and “24 routes” are not directly comparable: one number counts vehicles; the other counts routes covered.

Was route 020 added to the electric-bus list?

Not in the July 10 official roster. Route 020 – Piabeta/DIA was mentioned in the same set of announcements because its itinerary was extended to serve Avenida Governador Marcelo Déda, but it does not appear among either the 12 routes already served or the 12 new electric-bus routes. The route extension should therefore not be confused with inclusion in the electric fleet.

What about the airport routes?

Three routes connected with the airport area appear in the latest set: 008 – Porto Sul / Bairro Industrial was already among the served routes, while 413 – Aquarius / DIA and 502 – Aeroporto / Zona Sul were added in the expansion announced in July 2026. That confirms electric-bus coverage on those routes, but it does not guarantee that every bus or every departure is electric.

How to check before boarding

For trip planning, the list in this article answers whether a route was officially included in electric-bus coverage. To find out when a bus is due and what the route's current operating status is, use the live or timetable tools. SMTT provides itinerary and schedule information, and Cittamobi offers route, stop, timetable and arrival-prediction information when available.

  • To know whether the route is part of electric-bus coverage: check its number against the 24-route list.
  • To check timetable and itinerary: use SMTT or Cittamobi.
  • For a specific departure: do not assume it will be electric just because the route is listed; verify the operation close to boarding time.

Sources and update method

The main list was reconciled from Aracaju City Hall and SMTT publications. The latest line-by-line source is the delivery of the second batch of electric buses on July 10, 2026. The August 19, 2026 update was used to confirm that the fleet still counted 30 electric vehicles, without replacing the route roster. The July 2025 and October 2025 releases are included to explain why older lists still found in search results do not match the July 2026 picture.
