Curitiba will distribute 12,000 tree seedlings free of charge between September 20 and October 3, 2026. The schedule starts at the Domingo no Centro event and then moves through the city's Citizen Service Centers before ending in the Xaxim neighborhood. Every distribution announced by the City Hall starts at 9 a.m.

According to the City of Curitiba, 10,000 seedlings will be handed out in September and another 2,000 on October 3 at the Santuário São Francisco de Assis. To collect a seedling, residents must present an identification document and proof of address. The Municipal Environment Department also recommends bringing a bag for transport.

Which documents to bring

For pickup, the City Hall says residents must present an identification document and proof of address. The requirement allows the destination of each seedling to be registered and georeferenced by Curitiba's Institute for Research and Urban Planning, known as Ippuc. The information is then integrated into the city's Hipervisor data platform.

Residents are also advised to bring a sturdy bag to carry the seedling. Because the plants are distributed in nursery containers, planning transportation helps avoid damage and makes the trip to the planting site easier.

Which species will be available

The list released by the City Hall includes ornamental, native and fruit-bearing species. It includes araçazeiro, carobinha, Japanese cherry, quina, dedaleiro, ingá-banana, small yellow ipê, jabuticaba, guabiroba, Surinam cherry, palm heart, native cherry, cássia-fastuosa, canafístula, purple ipê and pau-ferro.

Availability may vary by distribution point. The official announcement does not mention advance reservation of specific species, so the selection available at pickup will depend on the stock taken to each event.

Where the seedling can be planted

Planting on private property does not require the authorization used for street-tree planting. Planting on streets, sidewalks, squares, parks, wooded public areas and other public spaces in Curitiba, however, requires prior assessment and authorization from the Municipal Environment Department.

The City Hall instructs residents to submit a request through the Central 156 before planting in a public space. The technical review considers overhead wiring, underground networks, sidewalk width, traffic signs, vehicle access, drainage and the mature size of the tree. Choosing an unsuitable species or location can create conflicts with sidewalks and urban infrastructure.

How the Half a Million Trees program works

The distribution is part of the Half a Million Trees for Curitiba program, which aims to reach 500,000 newly planted trees in the city by the end of 2028. According to the City Hall, more than 285,000 trees had already been planted since January 2025 when this schedule was announced.

In addition to expanding urban tree cover, the municipality presents the program as part of its climate adaptation strategy, with expected benefits such as shade, temperature regulation and carbon capture. For residents, the practical steps are straightforward: check the date for the most convenient location, arrive from 9 a.m. with the required documents and a bag, and choose a planting site that can accommodate the mature size of the selected species.

What to check before leaving home

  • Date and address of the most convenient distribution point.
  • Starting time, which is 9 a.m. throughout the published schedule.
  • Identification document and proof of address.
  • A suitable bag to transport the seedling.
  • The planned planting location and enough space for future growth.
  • Prior authorization through Central 156 if the intention is to plant on a street or other public area.

Because the schedule runs from September 20 to October 3 and covers several parts of Curitiba, residents can choose the pickup point that best fits their travel plans. The schedule above reproduces the locations and addresses confirmed by the City of Curitiba on September 17, 2026.
