The CIC Regional Pharmacy, opened by Curitiba City Hall on September 15, 2026, creates a closer pickup and service point for two groups that previously depended on other locations: users of medicines from Brazil's Specialized Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance (CEAF) and people receiving antiretroviral medicines. The service operates inside the CIC Rua da Cidadania public-service center and was presented by the Municipal Health Department as a pilot project to decentralize pharmaceutical care.

What changes for people living in the CIC region

For residents of the CIC administrative region who need medicines covered by the specialized component, the main change is the option to receive service and collect medicines in the region itself instead of traveling to the state pharmacy downtown. City Hall also states that the new pharmacy is a Medication Dispensing Unit (UDM) for antiretrovirals, expanding Curitiba's municipal dispensing network.

The new location does not mean that all SUS medicines have moved to the Regional Pharmacy. Basic medicines in Curitiba's municipal pharmacy program continue to be supplied by dispensaries at the city's 109 health units, with no change to that flow.

Who can use the CIC Regional Pharmacy

The municipal announcement describes the unit as an option for residents of the region who use CEAF medicines and as an additional dispensing point for antiretrovirals. For CEAF medicines, access depends on the treatment being covered by the applicable protocols and on the request including the documents required for the medicine and clinical condition.

For antiretrovirals, the CIC Regional Pharmacy joins Curitiba's network of UDM dispensing units. The official announcement does not state, in this section, that this service is restricted exclusively by residence; therefore, people who already collect antiretrovirals at another unit and want to change locations should confirm with the health network how registration or transfer of dispensing will work.

Which documents to bring

Users may seek service without a prior appointment. For specialized-component medicines, City Hall instructs patients to bring the medical prescription and the LME medicine request/authorization report, stamped and signed by the physician, plus any other documents required by the Paraná State Health Department for that medicine. Requirements can vary by disease, protocol and treatment.

For antiretrovirals, a medical prescription and the antiretroviral therapy dispensing form (TARV), also signed by the physician, are required. National forms and documents related to antiretroviral dispensing can be consulted in the Ministry of Health's official system.

How the service works in practice

  1. Check the type of medicine. Confirm whether it belongs to CEAF or is an antiretroviral dispensed through a UDM. Basic medicines continue through local health units.
  2. Gather the documents. For CEAF, bring the prescription, LME and protocol-specific documents. For antiretrovirals, bring the prescription and TARV form.
  3. Go to the CIC location. Initial service can be sought on a walk-in basis during opening hours.
  4. Submit a request, renewal or collect medicine. The unit is equipped to open requests, process renewals and dispense medicines, as applicable.
  5. Track the next date. According to City Hall, after the first pickup, subsequent dispensing dates are scheduled automatically.

Address and opening hours

The Regional Pharmacy operates at the CIC Rua da Cidadania. Curitiba's official location portal lists the address as Rua Orlando Luís Lamarca, 458, Cidade Industrial de Curitiba, ZIP code 81.315-660. The pharmacy's specific hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The location near the CIC bus terminal is intended to make public-transport access easier and connect the pharmacy with other services available in the same public-service center.

What the new pharmacy can handle

In addition to medicine pickup, the unit is structured to open and renew medication requests and provide pharmaceutical and nursing care. City Hall reports capacity for about 1,500 users per month, with a pharmacist, a nurse, two nursing technicians, four reception counters, two storage areas and a consultation room.

For CEAF medicines, clinical eligibility continues to be defined by Brazil's Clinical Protocols and Therapeutic Guidelines. The Paraná State Health Department also maintains the Farmácia do Paraná Digital, available to Curitiba residents, for initial requests and treatment renewals in cases supported by the system.

When it is still worth checking before leaving home

Not every specialized medicine requires the same tests and forms. Before going to the pharmacy, check the documentation for your treatment protocol on the Paraná Health Department's Specialized Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance page. People using antiretrovirals who are already linked to another UDM should also confirm whether a dispensing-location transfer is needed.

The key point is that the CIC Regional Pharmacy expands access, but it does not remove existing authorization, prescription or follow-up requirements for each treatment.
