CAPES's Call for Proposals No. 25/2026, under the Support Program for Events in Brazil (PAEP), accepts applications for 2027 scientific events until October 20, 2026, at 5 p.m., Brasília time. Applications must be submitted exclusively through the CAPES Application System. Eligible institutions and organizations are public or private nonprofit entities in the categories specified in the call, provided they are directly linked to the activities of academic Graduate Programs (PPGs). The event must involve at least three CAPES-recommended PPGs.
Who can submit a proposal?
An amendment announced by CAPES in September changed item 3.1 concerning the applicant institution or organization. The revised wording includes the following categories, provided they are public or private nonprofit entities directly linked to the activities of academic PPGs:
- higher education institutions;
- scientific and/or technological research organizations;
- forums of university presidents and/or vice presidents for academic affairs;
- scientific and/or technological associations or societies;
- signatories to scientific and/or technological cooperation agreements.
This replaced the previous requirement that the organization itself be responsible for an active, accredited academic PPG. The initial announcement of applications should therefore not be used on its own to assess institutional eligibility. Consult the call and its amendments on the official PAEP page.
There is also an individual applicant. According to CAPES's application guidance, this person must have a formal relationship with the applicant institution and be associated with an academic stricto sensu graduate program recommended by CAPES. The institution's eligibility and the submitting individual's requirements are separate checks.
Which events qualify for support?
The call covers short-duration academic events with national or international reach, taking place in Brazil between February 1 and December 31, 2027. In-person and hybrid formats are accepted. At least three CAPES-recommended PPGs must participate; having three researchers from the same program is not, by itself, equivalent to meeting this requirement.
Funding is intended for organizing the event and is subject to selection. The official program page reports an estimated overall budget of up to BRL 30 million; this is not a guaranteed amount for each application. The cap for each proposal depends on the event's size and reach, as set out in the call.
How to apply by October 20
- Read Call No. 25/2026 and its amendments on the official PAEP page, particularly the eligibility rules for the institution and individual applicant.
- Identify the responsible institution or organization, the individual's formal relationship, the participating PPGs, and the evaluation area.
- Gather the endorsement form signed by the institution's highest-ranking officer and the endorsement forms signed by the participating PPG coordinators, using CAPES's templates.
- Complete and submit the proposal exclusively through the CAPES Application System. The official announcement specifies one proposal per event.
- Complete submission by 5 p.m. Brasília time on October 20, 2026, and check the submission record in the system.
Applications opened on September 10, 2026. Preparing documents is not the same as submitting a proposal; submission must be completed in the system by the deadline.
What happens after submission?
- November 27, 2026: scheduled preliminary result.
- November 30 to December 4, 2026: scheduled appeal period.
- January 8, 2027: scheduled final result.
These are the dates published by CAPES for the 2027 edition. Submitting a proposal does not guarantee approval or funding. For questions about the program and call, CAPES lists paep@capes.gov.br as the contact address.
