The official Tesouro Direto app was discontinued on August 17, 2026. This did not end the program or change existing investments: bonds, invested amounts, returns and other portfolio information remain preserved. What changed is the access route. According to the official notice from Brazil's Ministry of Finance, investors now operate through the Portal do Investidor or through the channels of the financial institution where they hold their investment account.
In practice, anyone who used the Tesouro Direto app does not need to transfer the portfolio, register again or sell bonds because of the shutdown. The only task is to adopt one of the channels that remain available. This guide explains both routes and the main operational precautions, without recommending the purchase or sale of any specific bond.
What changed after the Tesouro Direto app ended
- The official app stopped operating: the shutdown took effect on August 17, 2026.
- Investments were not migrated or canceled: each investor's position remains registered and can be checked through official channels.
- The Investor Portal became the program's direct channel: it allows users to track the portfolio, view bonds, check returns, invest, redeem and review transaction history.
- Banks and brokers remain an alternative: depending on the institution's integration and policy, investments and redemptions may be available through its own app or website.
Option 1: use the Investor Portal
For anyone who wants to continue accessing Tesouro Direto directly, the closest replacement for the old app is the Investor Portal. The official Tesouro Direto rules state that access to the restricted area uses the investor's CPF and program password.
- Open the Portal do Investidor from the official Tesouro Direto website or through the direct address.
- Sign in with your CPF and access password. If you have password problems, use the recovery procedures provided through official channels.
- Open the portfolio or statement area to check bonds, balances and returns.
- To invest, choose the operation available in the portal, select the bond and amount according to your own investment decision, and review the conditions before confirming.
- To redeem, select the position you want to sell before maturity, enter the available amount or quantity, review the repurchase price and confirm the request.
The portal also includes transaction history and additional account queries. Registration with Tesouro Direto remains linked to an eligible financial institution, because investors need a CPF and an account with a participating bank or broker to purchase Brazilian government bonds through the program.
Option 2: operate through your bank or broker
The second route is the app or website of the financial institution where your investment account is registered. The experience is not identical across banks and brokers.
Program rules explain that an integrated institution may allow investors to buy and redeem bonds within its own environment using Tesouro Direto prices and rates. Some institutions also concentrate certain operations in their own channels. Therefore, if you do not see a Tesouro Direto function in the app, check the investment area or contact the institution before assuming the operation is no longer available.
Investor Portal or financial institution: which route should you use?
| Route | When it is most useful | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Investor Portal | For direct access to the Tesouro Direto portfolio, transaction history and operations in the program's official environment. | CPF, access password, price and conditions shown before confirmation. |
| Bank or broker app/site | For investors who prefer to keep investments inside their institution's channel. | Whether the institution is integrated and which operations it makes available in the app or site. |
Both routes access the same position registered in Tesouro Direto. The main difference is the interface and the services each institution makes available.
How to invest now without the old app
The end of the app does not change the basic purchase flow. After signing in to the Investor Portal or an enabled institutional channel, you select an available bond, enter the amount or quantity and confirm the order. Tesouro Direto uses the conditions in force when the request is submitted, subject to operating hours and possible temporary trading suspensions while prices are updated.
According to the official rules, purchases can use the payment and transfer methods made available by the program or the institution. Because functionality can differ among banks and brokers, check the selected channel to see how funds must be available before confirming the purchase.
How to request a bond redemption
An early redemption can also be requested without the old app. In the Investor Portal, open the portfolio, select the bond and the portion you want to redeem, then review the estimated repurchase amount before confirming. At an integrated institution, a similar operation may appear in the bank's or broker's app or website.
Brazil's National Treasury states that Tesouro Direto bonds have daily liquidity, but an early redemption is made at the market price on the transaction date. This means the amount received may be higher or lower than a projection based only on the yield locked in at purchase. A decision to redeem before maturity should therefore consider mark-to-market effects.
Investment and redemption hours
The rules and regulations state that purchases and redemptions made on business days from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. use the prices and rates available at the time of the transaction. From 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., as well as on weekends and holidays, orders may be submitted, but displayed prices are for reference and execution uses the opening conditions of the next business day. The system is under maintenance from 5:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
For redemptions, the rules also state that requests made on business days between 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. may have the proceeds available at the financial institution from 1:00 p.m. on the same day. Requests between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. become available at the institution from 1:00 p.m. on the next business day. The actual credit to the customer's account depends on the institution's processing.
What to check before confirming an early redemption
- the repurchase price shown at the time of the transaction;
- the estimated net amount and the effect of applicable fees and taxes;
- whether redemption is really needed before maturity;
- the request time and the expected availability of the funds;
- whether the transaction is being made through the official portal or a legitimate channel of your bank or broker.
Holding a bond to maturity and selling it early are different situations. In an early redemption, changes in market prices can affect the effective return. This article addresses access and channel operation, not product suitability, risk profiling or investment recommendations.
Checklist for former users of the Tesouro Direto app
- save the official Portal do Investidor address;
- test your CPF and password access before you need to make an urgent transaction;
- check whether your bank or broker offers purchases and redemptions directly through its app or website;
- do not use links received in messages as login shortcuts; prefer official channels;
- before redeeming, check the price, time and expected availability of the funds;
- do not move investments solely because the old app was discontinued: the existing portfolio remains preserved.
