Confiança, Sergipe and Itabaiana in 2027: what is already guaranteed and what Series C still decides

Confiança, Sergipe and Itabaiana already have important parts of the 2027 calendar defined, but Series C could still change the national division of two of them.

Sergipe football can now look to 2027 with an important part of the calendar defined. Sergipe, Confiança and Itabaiana have competitions guaranteed for next season, but there is a decisive difference: while Gipão already knows which national division it will compete in, Dragão and Tremendão still depend on the final stretch of Series C in 2026.

On the morning of August 8, 2026, before the start of the 16th round, Itabaiana appeared in 17th place in Series C, with 17 points, while Confiança was in 20th and last position, with 12. There are four rounds left until the end of the first phase.

The situation can be summarized as follows:

Club What is already guaranteed for 2027 What Series C still decides
Sergipe Sergipano, Copa do Nordeste, Copa do Brasil and Série D Nothing: the club has already been eliminated from the 2026 Series D
Trust Sergipano, Copa do Nordeste and Copa do Brasil, in addition to presence in a national division Whether it will play Série B, Série C or Série D
Itabaiana Sergipano and Copa do Brasil, in addition to presence in a national division Whether it will play Série B, Série C or Série D

The three Sergipe places in the 2027 Copa do Brasil were defined by the 2026 Sergipe Championship. Sergipe and Confiança entered as champion and runner-up, respectively, while Itabaiana won the third place by beating América de Propriá 1-0 in the specific dispute between the eliminated semi-finalists.

Sergipe is the only one of the three with the national design already closed

Sergipe arrives in August as the club with the most predictable situation for 2027. Champion of Sergipe in 2026, Gipão guaranteed participation in the Copa do Brasil and Copa do Nordeste, in addition to the place in Series D allocated by the state.

The possibility of transforming this Series D into a Series C existed during the first semester, but ended on June 27th. After drawing 1-1 with ASA in the first game of the second phase, Sergipe lost the return 1-0 at Batistão and were eliminated. With this, it ended its participation in the competition and confirmed its stay in the fourth division for 2027.

This leaves Colorado's planning with four already known fronts: Campeonato Sergipano, Copa do Nordeste, Copa do Brasil and Série D. There is no longer a field result in 2026 capable of changing the club's national division for the next season.

Confiança has two cups guaranteed, but the division is still open

Confiança secured their places in the Copa do Brasil and Copa do Nordeste in 2027 when they eliminated Itabaiana in the semifinals of Sergipano and reached the state decision. Afterwards, he finished runner-up after losing the second game of the final to Sergipe.

The big variable for 2027 is Series C. The 2026 regulations foresee that the top eight from the first phase will advance to the quadrangulars, from which four will be promoted to Series B. At the other end, only the last two will be relegated to Series D.

For this reason, the national division of Confiança cannot yet be definitively placed on the calendar. In regulatory terms, there are three paths: access to Series B, stay in Series C or drop to Series D. Given the current position, however, the most immediate dispute is permanence.

After 15 rounds, Dragão had 12 points and was in last place, tied in points with Anápolis, which appeared in 19th according to the tiebreaker criteria. As only two clubs fall, any change in position at the bottom of the table could directly change the size and level of the 2027 national calendar.

The final stretch begins for Confiança in the 16th round, against Paysandu, away from home, on August 10th. After that, there will still be three more commitments before the first phase closes.

Itabaiana has an advantage in the fight for permanence, but it is not yet defined

Itabaiana did not reach the Sergipano final and, as a result, was left out of the two state places for the 2027 Copa do Nordeste. On the other hand, it beat América de Propriá in the dispute for third place and ensured its presence in the Copa do Brasil.

Like Confiança, Tremendão already knows that it will have a national points competition or access in 2027, but not yet which one. The final result of Series C can place you in Series B, keep you in Series C itself or take you to Series D.

The difference is in the table situation. After the 1-1 draw in the classic against Confiança, on July 25, Itabaiana reached 17 points and remained in 17th place, five points above the relegation zone at that time.

The margin is relevant, but it does not end the dispute. With four rounds remaining before round 16, there were still enough points at stake to change the bottom of the standings. The next scheduled match is against Caxias, on August 9th.

Why 2026 has only two relegations

The configuration of this Series C is especially important for understanding the Sergipe calendar. The CBF began a gradual expansion of the third division: there are 20 clubs in 2026, there will be 24 in 2027 and 28 from 2028.

In this process, only two clubs from Series C in 2026 will be relegated, while six teams move up from Series D to the 2027 competition. The four traditional accesses from C to Series B are maintained. The combination allows the third division to go from the current 20 to 24 participants next season.

For Confiança and Itabaiana, this means that finishing 18th is enough to remain in Series C. The decisive boundary is between 18th and 19th positions, and not between 16th and 17th as would occur in a season with four relegated teams.

From a management point of view, this difference goes beyond the name of the competition. Only after the definition of Series C will the two clubs be able to treat the level of the 2027 national competition as closed, information that interferes with the sporting design of the season, the assembly of the squad and the planning of the calendar.

Sergipe has already crossed this stage: it knows that it starts 2027 with four confirmed competitions and with Série D on the national horizon. Confiança and Itabaiana also have a calendar, but they still carry a more important question. Until the end of Series C, it is not about finding out if there will be national football in 2027, but rather in which division each one will be.
