Rock in Rio 2026 payments: cards, Pix, cash and cashless for food and drinks

Cards and contactless wallets work directly; Pix and cash require a prepaid card. Learn the deposit, refund rules and what to bring.

Quick answer: inside the City of Rock, purchases of products, food, drinks and souvenirs are handled through digital payment methods. Physical credit or debit cards and contactless digital wallets can be used directly. Pix and cash are not direct payment methods at the vendors: anyone who wants to use either one must go through the cashless operation, load a prepaid card and then pay with that card.

Which payment methods work inside Rock in Rio 2026

The official announcement published on August 29, 2026 separates the accepted methods into three flows. The key distinction is what can be used directly at a bar, shop or food stand and what first has to be converted into value on the prepaid card.

MethodDirect use at the vendor? How it works
Physical credit cardYesDirect credit-card payment.
Physical debit cardYesDirect debit-card payment.
Digital walletYesContactless payment using a credit or debit card linked to the wallet.
PixNoIt is used at the cashless operation to load a prepaid card, which is then used for purchases.
CashNoIt also has to be converted into prepaid-card balance at the cashless counters.
Cashless prepaid cardYes, after loadingIt is obtained and loaded at the dedicated hybrid-payment counters.

The Rock in Rio Brasil 2026 Terms and Conditions also state that cash will not be accepted directly when buying products, food or drinks. Carrying only banknotes and coins therefore does not prevent you from buying things, but it does add an extra step before you can make a purchase.

How cashless works if you want to use Pix or cash

The Rock in Rio 2026 Hybrid Payment Operation Rules state that there will be two fixed, clearly marked counters for people who need to use Pix or cash.

  1. Go to one of the two cashless counters inside the City of Rock.
  2. Provide a CPF to obtain the card. The card is not named, but it is registered under the buyer's CPF.
  3. Activation is limited to people aged 18 or older who have full legal capacity.
  4. Pay a R$ 5 security deposit for the card and load or reload the amount you want.
  5. Use the prepaid card to pay for products during the event.

The prepaid card cannot be purchased in advance. It is available only inside the City of Rock on event days, at the two designated counters. Because the operation is concentrated at only two fixed points, anyone relying on Pix or cash should factor that extra step into their day.

Is the R$ 5 charge a fee or a refundable deposit?

The R$ 5 charged when the card is issued is a security deposit, not a permanent fee. The rules provide for the amount to be returned when the card is handed back in good condition at either of the two fixed counters by the end of each event day. If the card is not returned in good condition, the deposit is retained.

The physical card can only be returned inside the City of Rock. The rules also say prepaid cards cannot be returned after the final day of the event.

What if there is money left on the cashless card?

Unused card balance is separate from the R$ 5 deposit. Two refund routes are provided for money that remains on the card:

  • In person at the event: a refund can be requested at the cashless counters with no fee, and it is processed through the same payment method used to load the card.
  • Online: a request can be submitted at reembolsocashless.com.br/rockinrio2026, with a R$ 5 convenience fee. The online form will be available from September 14, 2026 through September 28, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. The rules state that online refunds will be paid by October 30, 2026.

This distinction avoids two common mistakes: treating the card deposit as if it were loaded balance, and assuming the online refund is free. The in-person balance refund has no fee; the online request costs R$ 5.

What happens if the prepaid card is lost

The prepaid card has no PIN. The rules therefore make the user responsible for keeping it safe and in good condition. If it is lost, the customer should immediately go to one of the designated counters to request a new card. A new R$ 5 deposit will be required.

Checklist: what to bring so you have a working payment option

  • If you want to pay directly: bring at least one physical credit or debit card. A contactless digital wallet is also accepted when linked to credit or debit.
  • If you plan to use Pix: do not expect a Pix QR code at every bar or shop; the official flow is to load the prepaid card at the cashless counters.
  • If you plan to carry cash: banknotes will not be accepted directly at vendors. They must first be converted into cashless balance.
  • If you will use cashless: have a CPF available and remember that card activation is restricted to people aged 18 or older.
  • If you want the deposit back: return the card in good condition inside the event and within the operating deadline for the day.
  • If you have unused balance: consider resolving it in person if you want to avoid the R$ 5 fee for the online refund.

Do not confuse ticket payment with food and drink payment

The payment rules for buying an admission ticket are separate from the rules for purchases inside the City of Rock. The festival's ticket page lists options such as credit card and Pix for ticket purchases, but that does not mean Pix is accepted directly at food and drink registers. For on-site purchases, the specific 2026 payment flow applies.

In practical terms, the simplest setup is to enter with a working physical card or contactless digital wallet. Pix and cash remain useful, but they must go through the cashless system before they can be used to pay at the vendors.
