Porto Alegre will have special traffic and public transport operations across several areas on the weekend of September 19 and 20, 2026. EPTC grouped the Farroupilha Camp and Parade, a religious procession, road races, concerts, and the Grêmio vs. Palmeiras match at the Arena into the same mobility plan. For anyone crossing the city, the key point is that the impacts are concentrated in different time windows and corridors over the two days.

Saturday: extra attention in the Historic Center, Beira-Rio and Araújo Vianna areas

The Our Lady of Sorrows procession is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., leaving the basilica at 6:00 p.m. The route follows Rua dos Andradas, Gen. Bento Martins, Riachuelo, Gen. Portinho, Cel. Fernando Machado, Gen. Vasco Alves and returns to Rua dos Andradas. Drivers and passengers moving through the Historic Center in the late afternoon should allow for temporary interventions along this route.

At Beira-Rio Stadium, the Henrique e Juliano event runs from 3:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Parking opens at 8:00 a.m., gates at 3:00 p.m., the leisure area at 5:00 p.m., and the main show is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Before the show, EPTC plans vehicle access to the leisure area via Edvaldo Pereira Paiva Avenue from Rótula das Cuias. After the concert, the avenue will operate with traffic directed toward downtown. Taxis and shared-ride vans are authorized to use the bus corridor during the announced operation.

Araújo Vianna Auditorium hosts Dominguinho, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. and the performance at 9:00 p.m. The municipal notice does not list specific road blocks for this event, but it does confirm traffic enforcement in the surrounding area.

What about Saturday's road race?

The municipal road-race calendar lists Energia Bancária Edição 2026 for Saturday, September 19, at Redenção Park. The EPTC weekend traffic notice published on September 18 does not provide a road-block route for that race in the same announcement. It is therefore sensible to expect heavier movement around Redenção and follow local signs without assuming road closures that were not specified in the notice reviewed.

Sunday morning: Lindóia Run and the Farroupilha Parade overlap

The Lindóia Run operation is scheduled from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. In EPTC's traffic notice, the start is listed at 7:00 a.m. The route begins at Shopping Lindóia and goes through Assis Brasil Avenue, Rua Hugo Hermann Filho, Rua Luiz Siegmann, Rua Dr. Nei de Almeida Brito, Panamericana Avenue, Praça Libanesa, Montreal Avenue, Rua Bogotá, Rua Catamarca and Panamericana Avenue again.

There is a timing difference between municipal pages: the general road-race calendar lists the Lindóia Run at 7:30 a.m., while EPTC's operational notice gives a 7:00 a.m. start and a 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. traffic window. For trip planning, the safer reference is the full EPTC operational window.

In the southern part of the city and along the waterfront, the Farroupilha Parade causes blocks and traffic changes on Edvaldo Pereira Paiva Avenue, between Pontal Shopping and Rótula das Cuias, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The parade itself runs from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The T1 Norte-Sul bus line will be diverted via Praia de Belas Avenue, Borges de Medeiros Avenue, the Viaduto dos Açorianos ramp and Loureiro da Silva Avenue.

Grêmio vs. Palmeiras: road blocks and special buses for the Arena

Grêmio and Palmeiras play at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday at Arena do Grêmio. Gates open at 9:00 a.m., and the match is expected to end at 1:00 p.m. EPTC estimates an attendance of 50,000 and advises drivers to watch for restrictions on approaches to the Arena, including the BR-448 ramp and Rótula Jornalista Paulo Sant'Anna, where A. J. Renner and Padre Leopoldo Brentano avenues meet Rua José Pedro Boéssio. Conditions may be adjusted in real time according to crowd and traffic movement.

For public transport, the match-specific notice, published after the general weekend summary, says the F04 Futebol Arena line starts at 8:00 a.m. from Largo Glênio Peres, with 10 buses for inbound service and another 10 for the post-match departure. T2.2, T2.3 and T2.5 will also receive reinforced service. For the return trip, T2.4 will use 10 articulated buses from Padre Leopoldo Brentano Avenue, with drop-off on Rua Peri Machado.

Trensurb is another option. Official guidance is to get off at Anchieta station, about 1.5 km from the Arena, which EPTC estimates at roughly a 15-minute walk.

For drivers leaving the parking lots, vehicles from E2 and E1, gates 3 to 5, will be directed to BR-448 toward Porto Alegre-Canoas. Vehicles from E1, gates 1 and 2, will head toward Rua Voluntários da Pátria.

How to plan your weekend trip

  • On Saturday afternoon and evening, avoid depending on a single route through the Historic Center, Beira-Rio or the Araújo Vianna area.
  • On Sunday morning, expect simultaneous operations in Lindóia, the waterfront area and around the Arena.
  • To cross the Farroupilha Parade area, treat 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. as the main restriction window on Edvaldo Pereira Paiva Avenue.
  • For the Arena, prioritize public transport or train when practical for your origin and leave early because road blocks are adjusted through real-time monitoring.
  • Even outside the main windows, follow signs and EPTC agents because restrictions can be changed according to traffic conditions.
