Salvador will have roadblocks, detours and traffic restrictions on Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, 2026. The operations are linked to races, walks, festivals, processions and cultural events in areas such as the waterfront, Comércio, the Historic Center, the suburban corridor, Liberdade, Sussuarana, Brotas and Castelo Branco.

The changes were announced by Salvador's traffic authority, Transalvador, and compiled in reports by Aratu On and Alô Alô Bahia. For drivers, the key point is to distinguish closures with fixed hours from progressive restrictions that move along with runners, walkers or processions.

Important: the end times below reflect the announced operating window. Actual reopening may happen progressively and can be adjusted on site.

Where drivers should be especially careful

The largest concentration of traffic operations is on Sunday. Waterfront roads will be affected before 5 a.m. by races in Piatã, Boca do Rio, Rio Vermelho, Barra and Ondina. Later, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., the DNJ event restricts Av. Oceânica again between Ondina and Farol da Barra. Drivers who can do so should avoid crossing the waterfront around race start and finish times.

In the Center and Cidade Baixa, Mega Help affects Comércio on Saturday, while the Gandhi Peace Run moves through the Historic Center early Sunday. Around Dique do Tororó, Pranchão do Frenesi changes access between Vasco da Gama, Fonte Nova, Lapa and Bonocô from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

How to plan your trip

  • Check the time of your own trip, not only the event time. Barriers may be installed before the main closure starts.
  • Allow extra time for progressive restrictions. A street may reopen soon after the group passes, but that depends on the on-site operation.
  • Use inland alternatives when directed away from the waterfront. Garibaldi, Centenário, Milton Santos, Sabino Silva and other corridors appear as detour routes in different operations.
  • Check live conditions before leaving. Visit the Transalvador website and traffic apps, because schedules and roadblocks can be adjusted.

Practical summary

On Saturday, the main attention points are Rio Vermelho, Paripe and Comércio. On Sunday, the list expands to the waterfront, Historic Center, Dique do Tororó, Liberdade, Sussuarana, Brotas, Castelo Branco, Caixa D'Água, Pau Miúdo and the suburban corridor. If your route uses Av. Oceânica, Via Célia Fontenelle, Av. Octávio Mangabeira, Estrada da Liberdade, Vasco da Gama or the Dique area, check the traffic operation immediately before you leave.
