Encceja Nacional 2026 will be applied on August 23, in all states and the Federal District. Considering August 7th, there are 16 full days left before the test. It's not enough time to try to study all the content of elementary or high school from scratch, but it's still a useful period to discover where the errors are, recover important topics and gain familiarity with the exam format.
The strategy for this final stretch must change. Instead of opening a sequence of articles and trying to “get through” them all, use questions to find what deserves review. Inep itself provides tests and templates from previous editions, in addition to reference matrices and preparation materials.
This choice also makes sense from a learning point of view. A broad review of study techniques ranked practicing tests and distributing study over time among the most useful strategies, while rereading and marking texts showed less consistent results. A review of research conducted in educational contexts also found recurring benefits of retrieval practice, that is, trying to answer or remember before looking up the answer.
First, find out where your points are slipping
Encceja is made up of four objective tests, each with 30 multiple-choice questions, in addition to the essay. In elementary school, Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Languages with Writing and History and Geography are assessed. In high school, Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Languages with Writing and Human Sciences are included.
If you are going to do all areas, do not automatically allocate the same time between them. If you will only do a few, focus the plan on the areas indicated for your participation.
Start by solving questions without consulting handouts, videos or answers. Then, when correcting, try to identify why each error happened. An error may indicate a lack of content, difficulty interpreting the statement, forgetting a procedure or simply inattention. This classification is more useful than just writing down “I got it right” or “I got it wrong.”
Also, do not transform the number of correct answers into a supposed guaranteed grade. Inep informs that objective tests use Item Response Theory (IRT), so the score is not a direct conversion of the number of correct answers. For qualification, the official reference is to achieve at least 100 points in each required area and a grade equal to or greater than 5 in the essay.
Review plan from August 7th to 22nd
- August 7 — make a real diagnosis. Take an official previous test of the areas you will be taking and solve a relevant set of questions without consulting material. Don't try to fix everything as you go. The goal of day one is to figure out where you are now.
- August 8 — turn errors into priorities. Correct the diagnosis and separate errors by cause: content you don't remember, interpretation, calculation or procedure, and inattention. Choose few recoverable topics to attack first. A huge subject that you've never studied shouldn't take up half of the final stretch.
- August 9 — work on the weakest area. Review the two or three points that most appeared in errors and immediately return to the questions. Read only what is necessary to solve it. Review ends when you can apply the content, not when you finish a chapter.
- August 10 — tackle the second biggest difficulty. Repeat the logic from the previous day in another area. After the explanation or short review, answer questions without looking at the solution and correct them afterwards.
- August 11 — Keep what's already working. Reserve part of your study for an area where you performed best. The objective is not to delve deeper into everything, but to prevent already mastered content from disappearing from the routine.
- August 12th — write the first complete essay. On July 31st, Inep published the Participant's Handbook – Encceja 2026 Writing. The document explains the five skills assessed, the correction, situations that can reset the text and provides commented examples. Use these criteria to write and revise an entire essay.
- August 13 — do mixed questions. Instead of spending an entire session reading theory, mix in questions from the subjects you reviewed in the previous days. The effort of trying to retrieve the answer before consulting it is part of the study.
- August 14 — go back to mistakes from the first week. Redo questions you got wrong on days 7-10 without looking at your previous correction. If the error reappears, the matter remains on the priority list. If you solve it safely, you can reduce the time dedicated to it.
- August 15th — simulate a test shift. Choose an official previous test and work with time control, fewer interruptions and without consultation. Whoever will do all the areas can bring the session closer to the conditions of one of the real shifts; Those who will do fewer areas must adapt the exercise to the selected tests.
- August 16 — correct the simulation before studying something else. The result is only useful when it becomes a diagnosis. Identify repeated errors and review only the content necessary to resolve them.
- August 17 — make the second block longer. Train the other areas and, if writing is part of your test, include a new textual production. At this point, the focus should also be on rhythm, reading and time management.
- August 18 — review the writing using the official criteria. Compare your text with the guidelines in the 2026 booklet: compliance with the theme, essay-argumentative structure, development and other skills described by Inep. The official guidance provides for text in Portuguese, with at least five lines, and recommends draft planning and revision before final transcription.
- August 19 — only attack repeat errors. Now the list should be smaller. Focus on content that continues to cause errors even after review. Avoid opening a new front just because you found a class or extensive booklet on another topic.
- August 20 — do a shorter mixed review. Use questions, formulas you really need to remember, recurring concepts, and your own error logs. The goal is to retrieve information without turning the day into a marathon.
- August 21st — close the heavy content and take care of the logistics. Check the Encceja System for the registration status and the test location. Separate a valid identification document and a black ink ballpoint pen made of transparent material. Also check your route and departure time from home.
- August 22 — do only light revision. If you want to study, use a short period to remember your most frequent mistakes, writing structures, concepts or procedures you have already worked on. This is not the time to do a new complete simulation or to exchange hours of sleep for new content. Meta-analyses on sleep restriction and deprivation find impairments in memory, attention and formation of new memories when sleep is reduced.
Previous test is not just for calculating correct answers
The biggest benefit of an old test at this stage is to show what to do in the next study.
If you got a percentage question wrong because you forgot how to set up the account, there is a specific procedure to recover. If you knew the content, but marked an alternative that the text itself contradicted, the problem may be with the reading. If the subject is completely unknown and would require several days to construct, it may be better to preserve time for smaller, more recoverable difficulties.
Inep maintains question books for some editions and templates for Encceja applications. Therefore, this material should be the first choice for diagnosis: it brings the review closer to the type of task that the participant will actually encounter in the exam.
Don't leave writing until the night before
Writing deserves to be included in the schedule because it is not enough to “know how to write” in a generic way. The 2026 booklet details the criteria used by Encceja and presents commented examples. Inep also informs that essays are evaluated by at least two independent brokers, with a third evaluation in situations of significant divergence.
In the final 16 days, two complete essays, corrected with attention to the criteria, can be more useful than producing texts daily without analyzing what needs improvement. Between one production and another, record two or three concrete problems: for example, unclear thesis, superficial arguments, lack of connection between paragraphs or difficulty in concluding.
In the second draft, your goal becomes to correct these problems.
Preserve energy for a long day of testing
Encceja takes place in two shifts. In the morning, the gates open at 8am and close at 8:45am; The tests start at 9am and end at 1pm. In the afternoon, the gates open at 2:30 pm and close at 3:15 pm; the application runs from 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The schedules follow Brasilia.
This means that resistance and attention are also part of the preparation. There is no advantage in arriving the day before accumulating short nights to finish content that no longer fits into the calendar.
In the last few days, maintain a sleep schedule compatible with your routine and avoid turning the early hours of the morning into a mandatory extension of studying. The available evidence does not allow us to promise a higher grade just for resting, but it supports something simpler: restricting sleep can harm memory and attention processes precisely when they are needed.
On August 23rd
Bring valid identification document and black ink ballpoint pen with transparent body. Inep recommends also taking the Registration Confirmation Card. Check your test location on the Encceja System before leaving home.
Plan to arrive early. After the gates close, participants are not permitted to enter. In the morning, closing occurs at 8:45 am; in the afternoon, at 3:15 pm.
Until then, the priority is not to prove that you can study everything. It's coming to the exam knowing more about your own mistakes, having trained the test format, reviewed what can still be recovered and preserved energy to use what you already know.
The next step is simple: open an official previous test, choose the areas that you will actually do and start with the diagnosis.
