Yes. ChatGPT ads have already launched in Brazil. OpenAI announced on August 11, 2026 that ChatGPT Ads had gone live in the country. That does not mean every user will see advertising: ads may appear for logged-in adults on the Free and Go plans, while Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu do not show ads. Accounts identified as belonging to people under 18 also do not receive ads.
Who can see ChatGPT ads in Brazil
| Plan or option | Can it show ads? | What matters |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Yes, for eligible users | Logged-in adults may receive ads. A free ad-free option is available with lower limits. |
| Free — ad-free option | No | Removes advertising at no charge, but lowers usage limits and access to some features. |
| Go | Yes, for eligible users | It is a lower-cost paid plan and may show ads. To use the free ad-free option, you need to return to Free; Plus or Pro provide a paid ad-free experience. |
| Plus | No | Does not show ads. |
| Pro | No | Does not show ads. |
| Business | No | Does not show ads. |
| Enterprise | No | Does not show ads. |
| Edu | No | Does not show ads. |
OpenAI notes that ads and related controls may appear only where the feature is active and for eligible accounts. The Brazil launch has been officially announced, but the availability of individual controls may still vary by account, platform, and rollout stage.
How to use ChatGPT Free without ads
For an eligible Free account, OpenAI provides the following path:
- Open Settings in ChatGPT.
- Go to Ad controls.
- Choose Change plan to remove ads.
- Select Reduce message limits.
- Confirm the change.
This choice does not create a paid subscription. It keeps the experience free and ad-free, but with a trade-off: lower usage limits and reduced access to certain features. The official FAQ cites image generation and deep research as examples of tools that may be unavailable in this mode.
If you reach an applicable limit, ChatGPT may offer the option to upgrade to Plus or Pro or return to the ad-supported Free experience to regain more access. Exact button wording may vary by platform.
Ad-free Free is not the same as turning off ad personalization
The two controls solve different problems. Turning off ad personalization does not remove ads. In that case, ad selection relies more on the current conversation; previous conversations and memory are not used to personalize advertising. The ad-free Free option, by contrast, removes ads in exchange for lower usage limits.
Do ads change ChatGPT answers?
According to OpenAI, no. Ads are displayed separately from answers and do not influence the content generated by ChatGPT. The company also says advertisers do not get access to conversations, chat history, memories, or users' personal data; only aggregated ad-performance data, such as total views or clicks, is shared.
When an ad appears, its three-dot menu may offer actions such as hide, report, open “About this ad,” or use “Ask ChatGPT.” That last action shares that specific ad into the chat by the user's choice; by default, ChatGPT cannot see the ads shown in the interface.
Which option makes the most sense?
- Free with ads: makes sense for people who prefer to keep more free access to features and are comfortable receiving advertising when eligible.
- Ad-free Free: is for people who prioritize an experience without advertising and accept lower limits and possible tool restrictions.
- Go: provides expanded access compared with Free, but it may show ads. It is not the route for someone who wants a paid subscription without advertising.
- Plus or Pro: are the individual paid ad-free options for people who also want to avoid the limitations of the ad-free Free mode.
- Business, Enterprise, and Edu: also do not show ads, within their organizational and educational use cases.
How to check what is available on your account
Open Settings and look for Ad controls. If that area or the lower-limits option does not appear, the FAQ says your account may not be eligible for that control at that time. To confirm the latest rules, check the official pages because OpenAI says availability may evolve as testing and launches expand.
