INSS benefits for the September 2026 reference month start being paid on September 24, but some beneficiaries will only receive the money in October. This does not mean the reference month has changed: the Sep/26 column in the official calendar runs from September 24 to October 7. To find the correct date, you need to cross-check two pieces of information: the benefit amount bracket and the final benefit number, excluding the check digit.

How to identify the correct benefit ending
INSS instructs beneficiaries to look at the digit immediately before the hyphen and ignore the check digit that appears after it. In the official example 0104-7, the ending used for the calendar is 4, not 7.
In a fictional example using the traditional Benefit Number format, 123.456.789-0, the ending used for the calendar would be 9. The zero after the hyphen is the check digit and is not used to select the payment date.
INSS explains this rule on its 2026 payment calendar page.
Why can a September reference month be paid in October?
The reference month identifies the month the benefit belongs to; the payment date identifies when the money becomes available. In the annual calendar, the September 2026 reference month spans a sequence that begins on September 24 and ends on October 7. Receiving the money in October therefore does not turn it into an “October reference month” payment.
For benefits up to one minimum wage, endings 1 through 5 are paid in September. Endings 6, 7, 8, 9 and 0 are paid from October 1 to 7. All benefits above one minimum wage for the September reference month are scheduled from October 1 to 7.
Step by step: find your date without mixing up the fields
- Check your benefit amount and identify whether it is up to one minimum wage or above it.
- Find your Benefit Number (NB).
- Ignore the check digit after the hyphen.
- Use the digit immediately before the hyphen as the “ending”.
- Match that ending to the table for your benefit amount bracket.
Quick examples
- NB 0104-7 and a benefit of up to one minimum wage: the ending is 4; for September 2026, payment is scheduled for September 29.
- Fictional NB 123.456.789-0 and a benefit of up to one minimum wage: the ending is 9; payment is scheduled for October 6.
- The same ending 9, but a benefit above one minimum wage: it falls into the “4 and 9” group; payment is scheduled for October 6.
Where to confirm the amount, bank and deposit date
If you still have questions, the Benefit Payment Statement service in Meu INSS shows the benefit amounts, payment date and the bank where the payment was deposited. INSS also says the benefit number can be checked on the Meu INSS website or app through the “payment statement” service.
If the system is unavailable, the official service page directs users to phone number 135. INSS's general payment information page also notes that when there is a municipal, state or federal holiday, payment should be made on the next business day.
