Short answer: receiving the Benefício de Prestação Continuada (BPC) does not, by itself, mean that every family must redo its Cadastro Único registration in 2026. The 2026 Registration Review (REV26) covers outdated records and, in its initial group, also families receiving BPC, Bolsa Família or the Social Electricity Tariff whose last update was between January 2024 and January 2025. For BPC recipients, the safest approach is to check the status in the Cadastro Único app or web version and update the information as soon as there is a notice or the record is outdated.
This guide uses the August 2026 edition of Joint Normative Instruction No. 2, which is the latest version listed on the MDS registration verification and review legislation page. Among other changes, this edition modified the temporary rule for serving one-person households receiving BPC.
Who is included in the 2026 BPC registration review
For the initial REV26 group, MDS used the December 2025 BPC beneficiary database and included families according to the date of their last CadÚnico update. For families receiving social programs or benefits, the groups run from 1 to 15:
- Group 1: last update on or before November 30, 2023;
- Group 2: last update in December 2023;
- Groups 3 to 15: last update between January 2024 and January 2025, with one group for each month.
There is also Group 16, for families that were not receiving PBF, BPC or TSEE in the MDS reference data and had a last update on or before December 2023. For a family receiving BPC, the key point is not to assume inclusion from memory of the date alone: the official consultation and any notice should confirm the status.
Decision tree: do I need to update now?
- Does the Cadastro Único app or website show a 2026 Registration Review message or a pending issue? Contact the CRAS or the municipal Cadastro Único office and regularize the record.
- Was the family only in REV26 and did it update its information on or after January 12, 2026? Under the August rule, that update can regularize the record. Check whether the status shows as regularized; if there is another pending issue or another qualification process, follow the specific instruction.
- Was the last update in January 2025 or earlier? The family may be among the initial REV26 groups, especially if it was already receiving BPC in the database used by MDS. Check the official consultation and notifications.
- Was the last update in February 2025 or later? That date alone does not place the family in the initial REV26 groups 1 to 15. Even so, the record must be kept current whenever information changes, and any new notices must be monitored.
- Has INSS already sent a notice about an outdated CadÚnico record? Do not wait for the registration exclusion date. Follow the notice immediately, acknowledge it through official INSS channels and arrange the CadÚnico update.
The BPC deadline is not the same as the Bolsa Família blocking deadline
This is the point most likely to cause confusion. The REV26 schedule contains blocking and cancellation dates for Bolsa Família and the Social Electricity Tariff, but those dates should not be treated as the “BPC deadline.” In the BPC-specific section, the August rule provides that families called into the process may face benefit consequences when CadÚnico has gone more than 24 months without an update or when the registration is excluded.
INSS may notify the beneficiary or legal representative through official channels such as the bank statement, Meu INSS, telephone or email. The rule provides 30 days to acknowledge the notice; if this does not happen, the benefit amount may be blocked. Even when the block is lifted after acknowledgement, the registration issue still has to be resolved. For that reason, the 48-month logical exclusion date should not be treated as permission to wait.
How the last update date relates to REV26
The table below shows the initial beneficiary groups and the logical exclusion month provided in the August edition if the record remains unresolved. For BPC, these months do not replace the duty to keep CadÚnico updated or any INSS notices.
| Last CadÚnico update | REV26 group | Logical exclusion if not regularized |
|---|---|---|
| On or before 11/30/2023 | Group 1 | From March 2027 to November 2027, depending on the case |
| December 2023 | Group 2 | December 2027 |
| January 2024 | Group 3 | January 2028 |
| February 2024 | Group 4 | February 2028 |
| March 2024 | Group 5 | March 2028 |
| April 2024 | Group 6 | April 2028 |
| May 2024 | Group 7 | May 2028 |
| June 2024 | Group 8 | June 2028 |
| July 2024 | Group 9 | July 2028 |
| August 2024 | Group 10 | August 2028 |
| September 2024 | Group 11 | September 2028 |
| October 2024 | Group 12 | October 2028 |
| November 2024 | Group 13 | November 2028 |
| December 2024 | Group 14 | December 2028 |
| January 2025 | Group 15 | January 2029 |
The general Registration Review rule is automatic exclusion when a record reaches 48 months without an update. For Group 1, the August rule sets an exclusion window from March through November 2027 because that group combines several older update dates.
How to check your status and deadline in Cadastro Único
- Access Cadastro Único on the web or use the official app.
- Consult the registration information. The official service allows users to see registration status, the date of the last update and the deadline for a new update; see also the Gov.br service “Consultar dados do Cadastro Único”.
- Sign in with a Gov.br account to access the full consultation and notifications. In the 2026 qualification action, messages are available through the envelope icon in the app.
- If there is a REV26 message, note the group, instruction and deadline shown. If the information is unclear, contact the CRAS or municipal Cadastro Único office, which can verify the family’s status in the qualification action.
- If there is a BPC-specific INSS notice, handle it separately: use official INSS channels to acknowledge the notice and resolve the CadÚnico update without waiting for logical exclusion.
MDS may also use letters, SMS, calls, voice messages or WhatsApp depending on availability and its communication strategy. To reduce fraud risk, confirm the information in the official app/website or directly with a public service office before providing personal data.
Living alone: the temporary rule changed in August
Until July 2026, REV26 required a home interview for one-person households receiving BPC or Bolsa Família, except for specified exceptions. The August edition temporarily relaxed that requirement: through June 30, 2027, a one-person household receiving BPC and included in REV26 may update its registration in person at Cadastro Único service points, without an “outside the home” marker preventing regularization for benefit maintenance.
Starting July 1, 2027, the rule provides for the home-interview requirement to take full effect again, unless a later rule changes it. The temporary flexibility does not waive the other documents and procedures required for one-person households.
What documents to bring for the update
Under the 2026 action guidance, the Family Representative should bring:
- CPF;
- photo identification;
- proof of residence or, if unavailable, a residence declaration signed by the representative;
- CPF for every other person in the family.
When there is a Legal Representative, CPF and documents proving guardianship, tutorship or curatorship are also required, along with the represented person’s documentation. Some groups have specific rules and exceptions, so it is useful to check the official MDS document guidance before the appointment.
After the update, confirm that the record changed
After the interview, return to the CadÚnico app or web version and check the new update date and registration status. MDS itself warns that a message or letter can arrive in the following month even when the family has already regularized its information because there can be a delay between the appointment and database processing. In that situation, the most recent status recorded in the system is what matters.
Important: updating CadÚnico fulfills a registration requirement, but it does not by itself guarantee the granting or continued payment of BPC. The benefit remains subject to its legal eligibility criteria and the program’s and INSS’s own checks. For Cadastro Único questions, MDS provides the 121 service; for an INSS notice, block or other BPC-specific issue, use the institute’s official channels.
